Fung Wah, Bus or Drag Racer?

The Washington Post, following the grand investigative journalism tradition first started by Woodward and Bernstein, is less than convinced about the safety standards of the Chinatown buses between NY, Boston, Philly, and D.C.
The buses make 350 trips between the cities each week, but Fung Wah is a bit sketchy. After last month's crash, Fung Wah sent another bus to pick up the uninjured passengers, and even that driver didn't speak English. State Troopers refused to let the passengers take the Fung Wah, and called a Peter Pan bus instead. As for safety scores, Greyhound has a 22 and Fung Wah a 71, with lower numbers being better. Quite a gap, according to the Post.
Still, we know people who prefer the Fung Wah despite the risk--if you survive, getting to Boston in 3.5 hours by bus is a pretty impressive feat. As for us, we'll stick with the train. It may take 8 hours on Amtrak, but we'll get there eventually.
