The Future of Airlines: Cheaper Tickets, Fewer Frills?
While low-budget airlines have long since come to dominate most popular short-haul routes, legacy carriers have managed to stay afloat thanks to long-distance flights, which magnify the importance of their enhanced services and amenities. According to The New York Times, however, that's starting to change as the economic downturn creates new opportunities for no-frills upstarts.

Quit Vacillating and Book Your Summer Flights Already!
If you've been waiting to pull the trigger on a flight this summer in the hope that ticket prices will soften even further, it's time to commit. Airfares are about as low as they're going to go, according to the guy from FareCompare.com, which keeps an eye on these kinds of things. In an interesting AP item, CEO Rick Seaney said that airfares have begun to creep up by $10 to $20 in recent days, and will likely continue to firm as oil prices rise and the summer travel season begins in earnest over the Independence Day holiday. The bottom line: buy your tickets now if you want a super-cheap vacation this summer. Do it.

JetBlue Offering Limited Cross-Country Flights for Less Than Checked Baggage Fees

April Fool's Day is over right? Travelzoo's email newsletter isn't running behind schedule or anything, is it?
Because we are just flabbergasted over this latest airfare deal from JetBlue: $14 for a one-way trip from New York to San Francisco. Or a one-way trip from SFO to Long Beach.
Yes, the fare has strict restrictions like you MUST BOOK TODAY before 11:59 PM MT or until availability is gone. You also must complete your travel before April 8. Sadly, the return trip from SFO to JFK is already sold-out. But Long Beach-San Fran route is still in the game. Of course, the fare in nonrefundable and any cancellations or changes will cost you a $100 change fee.
Right now, 140 seats are available for SFO to JFK. 800 seats are available for LGB to SFO and back. We found a $14 flight tonight (the red-eye) from SFO to JFK with just a few seats left. Saturday and Monday also yielded a $14 flight.
Unfortunately, trips returning from JFK are pricey. The lowest we found within a couple of days was $259 with a stop through Austin. So maybe just book the $14 one way now and figure the rest out from NYC.
Go to JetBlue to begin booking your trip. Let us know if you scored one of these killer deals!
