Movie Set Travel: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

If there is one way for us to celebrate the end of this heat wave, it's in an icy-cold movie theatre. And today, there's no need to waste $10.50 on a second rate film. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby opens with our favorite spare-tire toting jokester Will Ferrell.

The plot revolves around Ricky Bobby, a #1 NASCAR driver, whose fame and top ranking are threatened by a rogue French Formula One driver.

As much of the movie was shot in Charlotte, NC, we offer you some cool things to do around town. Don't forget your sponsor-labeled jumpsuit!

Where To Stay:
Morehead Inn
A few minutes from uptown Charlotte, you'll find this elegant Southern estate. A former private home, it features all the charms you'd expect like fireplaces and a four-bedroom carriage house. Through Labor Day the inn is running a special $99/night deal that includes a Southern breakfast and use of loaner bicycles during your stay.

Where To Eat:
Mert's Heart and Soul
Head to North College St. for real Southern cooking. At Mert's (named for a favorite former customer, not an owner) you'll feast on freshly made Pimento Cheese sandwiches on Texas toast, BBQ galore, and specialties like Fried Shrimp Po' Boys. Don't miss the Charleston Red Rice side dish and expect a crowd.

Where To Race:
Lowe's Motor Speedway
Here's where you'll see the real thing nearby in Concord, NC. Lowe's is one of the country's premiere racetracks and features over 10,000 seats, stadium towers and a special newly built garage area (added for the NASCAR Busch series). It's also got eight driving schools to choose from on the premesis, so bring your racing gloves and need for speed.
