NFL Player Ochocinco Needs Your Help Twittering The Season
The NFL season is just around the corner, and what better way to enjoy a game than getting the opportunity to check it out in person. If you’re a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, and we feel for you if you are, you might just get a free trip thanks to Chad Ochocinco—yes that's his name, as he changed it to match his number.
Number 85 is good at running his Twitter account, he’s got like 7,000 updates, but he needs a little help to keep the momentum during the regular season. Too bad the league frowns upon cell phones on the bench. Thus, a contest has bloomed ...

United Having Rough SM Year: First a Broken Guitar, Then a Stranded DJ

Ok, we're using the word "celebrity" loosely here when talking about Samantha Ronson but the DJ is often in the headlines thanks to her famous-for-being-a-wreck girlfriend, Lindsay Lohan. Still, despite what some folks think, Samantha is a rather in-demand DJ, always jetting off here and there to spin at some party, club or private event.
Last week, her work took her to Dallas where she played a party at the W Dallas. It should have been a quickie in and out but thanks to airport delays, her United flight got grounded. And apparently, even dating Lindsay Lohan will not get you special treatment when rescheduling your flight. Samantha tweeted:
yeah it really sucks- they told me they could get me there tomorrow- hmmm- f*ck you very much UNITED.
She then went on to tweet that she prefers American over United and that she learned her lesson a long time ago about checking musical instruments as an Italian airline once lost her guitar. Oh, if only she made a clever YouTube video about it she could have been reimbursed!

Lance Armstrong Has HomeAway To Thank For His Digs in France

So the Tour de France ended yesterday and our favorite celeb Twitterer Lance Armstrong was not able to capture his former glory, finishing only in third place. Naturally, we had to check up on his Twitter page to see how he felt about that and while we were there, we learned that he used a vacation rentals agency to secure housing for his family in France.
Thanks to @homeaway for hosting me and my family in Paris

Ticket to Funny: Tweetin' Comedians Think They Can Fly This Plane
Maybe it's the arduous work of spreading the funny from coast to coast, but comedians on Twitter seem to do more than their fair share of observing the indignities of modern travel. Just this morning Paul Feig, creator of "Freaks and Geeks" and executive producer of "The Office," had a fun security experience with someone who apparently hadn't flown since 2005 when the liquid restrictions were put in place. Sure, we might have had the same experience, but we weren't fast enough on our feet to wring out this kind of hyphenated hilarity. (He then took a shuttle and tried to buy painkillers.)

Tony Hawk's Twitter Treasure Hunts

Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. This elite sect of Twitterati is extremely thumbnail photogenic, well-trained in innovative ways of seeking attention/letting it all hang out, and most importantly for us travel geeks, constantly traveling the world. This week we're looking at who's Tweeting what from where. Any Celeb Twitterers we should follow? Let us know.
Tony Hawk doesn't seem so sure of what Twitter is and he only started doing it a few months ago because he was hearing so much about it in the media. Sigh. But we'll forgive him that because he's started a Twitter Treasure Hunt with skateboards.
Recently Hawk and his friends stashed signed Tony Hawk skateboards in different cities across the US and in some international places and then Twittered clues to his followers about where they were. The directions were pretty specific so it was really just a race to see who gets there first.
CNN's iReport interviewed Hawk about the treasure hunts and he said while the organization of the whole event was challenging, mostly in terms of reading the @replies, he does want to do again on a larger scale. It took him some time but he finally managed to retweet the replies of people who found his skateboards, like these cute kids.
Of course, Hawk is not the first celeb to conduct these sort of Twitter treasure hunts. Lily Allen has been doing it at each concert stop, twittering locations where tickets will be given to out to Twitter followers. And while he's no Lance Armstrong, we can't knock people who give things away for free.
If you're following Tony on Twitter, then follow Jaunted!

John Mayer's Mayercraft is Waxed and Ready to Go

John Mayer's Mayercraft is departing from San Pedro, California today and if you aren't one of the lucky ones on the ship, you may still have a chance to go. The Mayercraft Carrier website still says there are less than 100 cabins left, starting at $879 per person. (Call 1-877-SIXTHMAN to book.)
Meanwhile, John, an avid and sometimes annoying Twitterer, has prepped for the four-day cruise to Cabo by making sure his "area" is all waxed for the return of the neon yellow Borat-style mankini. Um. Ok.

Bruce Willis Won't Let Caribbean Economy 'Die Hard'

With Caribbean resorts and hotels offering tons of incentives to lure guests away from watching their stock portfolio crash and burn, it's nice to see that Bruce Willis has manned up and done what we could not do--he chose Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos as his destination wedding location.
Bruce married model girlfriend Emma Heming at his private home with tons of celebs in attendance, including ex-wife Demi Moore and her hubby Ashton Kutcher. Word is that all those invitees were shacked up at hotels nearby. Could the brand-new Gansevoort Turks and Caicos have been one of them? Or perhaps the hideout favored by Derek Jeter and his galpal Minka Kelly at the Nikki Beach Resort was used?
We checked Demi and Ashton's Twitter profiles (here and here) but there were no real clues about where they were shacking up. Although, Ashton did post a pic of Demi bending over in her white bikini and she felt the need to tweet "I am madly in love with my husband!" on Bruce's wedding day.
Either way, we bet the island is breathing a sigh of relief over the cash influx on the island. See, celebrities can do good!

LeVar Burton Shares Friends To Know And Ways To Grow on Twitter

To us, he’s right up there with Big Bird and Mr. Rogers. To others, he’ll always be the Chief Engineer aboard the USS Enterprise. Although we love Reading Rainbow—who knew it only ended a couple years ago—he’s most famous for his Emmy-nominated roll in Roots.
We’re talking about LeVar Burton of course, and he’s taking the Twitter world by storm. No simple mundane postings here—he’s mastered the ReTweet, is always up for a chat, and most importantly he's hosted Tweet-Ups abroad. No wonder he’s got over 150,000 followers.
Earlier this month LeVar was in Toronto as a guest on the talk show The Hour—it’s a little like Leno or Letterman and is hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos. Even before LeVar boarded the plane to TO he was thinking about what to do once his feet hit the ground.
Contemplating a Tweetup in TORONTO this evening. Anyone know of a place that serves up a decent pint in Yorkville?

Around the World With (Fake) Karl Lagerfeld

Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. This week we're looking at who's Tweeting what from where. Any Celeb Twitterers we should follow? Let us know.
The man, the myth, the legend: Head designer of Chanel and Fendi as well as his own label, Karl Lagerfeld spends just as much time jetting around the world as he does sketching fashions. Many of his addictions are widely known, such as his penchant for Diet Coke, his love of Zaha Hadid's architecture, and his obsession with his 40 iPods (all carried in a bespoke trunk by a dedicated iPod assistant). For such an influential personality with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, you'd think that he'd be twittering up a storm in flood of languages, but others have beat him to the punch.

Rob Corddry Lets Us Know What He Sees From 10D

Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. Before Star Magazine did a spread on it, we were way into the whole Celebs Who Twitter scene, and now we have one more dude for you to follow. Rob Corddry, of Daily Show fame, is quickly establishing himself as an online presence with over 7,000 followers. No doubt Twitter is also a great way to promote his latest acting project, Childrens’ Hospital, a show he writes, directs, and stars in on the WB’s online network. You know actors, always looking for a plug somewhere.
But Corddry caught our eyes with a travel-related tweet. And this one had to do with the view from the aisle.

Lily Allen's TwitPic From Her Hotel Room Makes Us 'Smile'
Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. This elite sect of Twitterati is extremely thumbnail photogenic, well-trained in innovative ways of seeking attention/letting it all hang out, and most importantly for us travel geeks, constantly traveling the world. This week we're looking at who's Tweeting what from where. Any Celeb Twitterers we should follow? Let us know.
A longtime MySpace blogger, Lily has now embraced Twitter has a way to communicate with her fans. Much like the rest of Lily's life, her online adventures are fodder for tabloids from West Hollywood to India, especially after she and Perez got into some sort of Tweet fight.
Which is why we were happy to see Lily was a top notch travel Twitterer.
It turns out Lily is in Sydney at the same time our own Markj is there. And she's mastered TwitPic sufficiently enough to post a killer view from her hotel room at the Four Seasons Sydney featuring the iconic Sydney Opera House in the background. And she even gave our sis site, HotelChatter, her opinion of the hotel's restaurant Mark was staying in, The Establishment:
@HotelChatter yeah, I've stayed there before, sushi e , the restaurant is yum
And there you have it. Lily Allen now ranks up there with Lance, Shaq and McHammer as worthy traveling celeb Twitterers. However, not every celeb can Twitter like these elite few. Here are some other top-dollar names you won't want to @reply on Twitter:
· Ashton Kutcher: Ashton's tweets are not usually worthy unless you like looking at pics of his wife, Demi Moore and him trying to run off with Penelope Cruz's Oscar statue.
· Demi Moore: See above.
· Britney Spears: Totally not done by Brit Brit but occasionally she'll pop in with a G-rated, on the message Tweet.
· Ryan Seacrest: How does this man find time in the day to Twitter? Doesn't he have like eight jobs? But because he's all work and no play, Ryan makes a boring travel Twitterer.

McHammer Uses TwitterTime To Talk About Airline Safety

Celebs have invaded Twitter! Celebrities Twittering is a social media perfect storm. MC Hammer won over our geeky hearts during Barack Obama's Presidential Inauguration last month when he was Twittering on the ground during the festivities. (Mad thanks to Ellen for telling us about it.) This month he's won us over again by tweeting in-flight from his Virgin America flight from Boston.
35,000 ft in the sky.... over Toronto ...-60 degrees... but um... I'm cool ! Virgin America...oh boy ! This is how we do it !!!!
Hammer even gave a shout-out to Virgin America a few minutes later, proving that he has mastered the @ reply. Something, we can't say for many people on Twitter.
