Take a Culinary Tour of Boston with Ben Affleck in ‘The Town’
Ben Affleck is not only gaining a reputation as a great filmmaker, but also as a loyal hometown boy. His latest movie, The Town, like Good Will Hunting (which he co-wrote) and Gone Baby Gone (which he co-wrote and directed, was set and filmed in his hometown of Boston.
The title, The Town, is a nod to Charlestown, MA, which at one time was the bank robbery capital of America. Ben not only directed the movie, he also plays a robber who falls for one of his victims whiling trying to break away from the business.

Watch Ben Affleck Film in Boston, Then Eat a Cupcake

Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and their two kids, Violet and Serafina, have been spotted around Ben's hometown of Boston recently. But Ben isn't in town visiting his old neighborhood, he's actually working on a new movie, "The Company Men", also starring Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner, as workers trying to survive a workforce reduction at a large corporation.
Today, they are filming at 5 Union Park on Boston's South End. We watched Tommy Lee Jones film a scene at this location a few weeks ago. The PAs wouldn't let us get too close but it looked like his character was having his car repossessed.

DC Gets More Time in the Spotlight Thanks to 'State of Play'
It would be easier to list the stars that don't appear in the film, "State Of Play". The thriller, about the dying newspaper biz and dirty politics, stars Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Jason Bateman, Robin Wright Penn, and 2009's most talked about city thanks to our new prez, Washington D.C. The city's history sets the stage for all of the movie's suspense and drama. Here's a guide to touring D.C., "State of Play" style.
Where to Stay:
According to IMDb, at least one scene in the movie was filmed at the Americana Hotel in Arlington, VA. The hotel sounds pretty basic and is located next to a highway but it does have a reputation for being clean and having a friendly staff. The price is right too, rates start at $94 a night.

Political Celeb Travel: First-Class to Denver for the DNC
The Democratic National Convention will be held August 25-28, and we bet a lot of people would love to be there whether they support presumptive nominee Barack Obama or not. And stars are no exception: Gossips are predicting an unprecedented level of celeb sightings next week in Denver.

Booster Travel: Matt and Ben for Barack
At least two brave men aren't afraid to associate themselves with "the biggest celebrity in the world": Ben Affleck and Matt Damon spoke at an Obama fundraiser in Miami, Florida over the weekend.
Affleck's wife Jennifer Garner also spoke, reportedly bringing down the crowd with her jokes. Wonder if any of them were about Kathy Hilton, who called John McCain out on his incoherent US Weekly-style ad and gently reminded him that the Hiltons are major personal donors to the Republican coffers. Oops!

Africa Travel: Affleck's Armed (with a Camera)
We vaguely remember calling a moratorium on celebrities traveling to Africa, but if they go in for a purpose we suppose we'll allow it. The latest is Ben Affleck, who just wrapped up a trip to the Congo on behalf of the evergreen news program "Nightline."
Affleck pitched the idea of taping his trip to ABC after visiting the country earlier this year, where despite the best efforts of a democratic republic, fighting continues in skirmishes related to the devastating Second Congo War.
And to think, he could just stay home and make dirty videos with Jimmy Kimmel.

Movie Set Travel: Hollywoodland
Ben Affleck takes a break from fatherhood to return to the big screen in today's pick: Hollywoodland. We've already heard raves about Diane Lane's performance in this one as well, as in it's Oscar-worthy.
The film, "a uniquely compelling exploration of fame and identity", centers around one of Tinseltown's most famous real-life murder mysteries: George Reeve, aka the original Superman. His mother seeks justice and gets a private investigator involved, promising dangerous situations aside from watching Ben Affleck try serious drama.
As the film was shot almost entirely in Canada (not again! yawn) we're offering up some fun things for you to check out in the real Hollywood!:
Where To Stay:
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
See and be seen at one of town's hippest spots. Just redone last year, this hotel dates back to 1927 and has hosted everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Lindsay Lohan. The outdoor heated pool is the place to party, and be sure to catch the David Hockney mural that graces the pool's bottom. Guest rooms feature crazy amenities like Dean & DeLuca "pantries" and linens by Sferra. Hole up and watch the scandal unfold.
Where To Eat:
Empress
Hop on over to West Hollywood to check out Thomas Schoos' latest in the former crappy Sushi on Sunset space. Empress features a blue interior, with nice views, and lots of bamboo. Pan Asian menu items are great for sharing and snacking, so bring your favorite starlet.
Where To Visit:
The Hollywood Museum
We know, we know...sounds hokey, but worth it. Located in the historic Max Factor building, the Hollywood Museum has a plethora of old time photos and displays and is currently running a whole exhibit on Babs' Legacy Collection. A hilarious afternoon to get kitschy. Be sure to walk all over the "Walk of Fame" just outside.
