Where to Celebrate the Mavericks' NBA Championship Win in Dallas Tomorrow

June 15, 2011 at 8:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks on becoming this year’s NBA champions after they won game six Sunday evening in South Florida against the Miami Heat. The team has already been out partying and celebrating in South Beach—apparently living it up at LIV nightclub at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. Which is a little funny—if we do say so ourselves—because that’s where LeBron James’ mom got arrested just a few months ago for slapping a valet (guess that means no tip!)

The team is now back in Big D and is getting ready to celebrate with the city this Thursday. Of course there’s going to be a parade—and probably more—and we’re expecting quite a celebration since owner Mark Cuban is paying for the whole shindig. Expect everyone from Jason Kidd and Dirk Nowitzki to the city’s mayor to be in attendance.

How to Get Tickets to the Men's College Basketball Final Four in 2012

April 12, 2011 at 10:41 AM | by | Comments (0)

If you’re still missing all those last-second buzzer beaters and other March Madness craziness, you’ve got quite some time until 2012 rolls around. However, you can always get a head start on next year by trying to score some tickets well in advance.

Tickets to next year’s Final Four in New Orleans don’t really ever go on sale to the general public, as you need to be lucky enough to be selected in advance for the opportunity to purchase your own. Once the tournament finally rolls around, your chances of getting a face value ticket are slim to none, so that’s why we’re suggesting that you act now.

Fight Final Four Hangover with a Trip to the College Basketball Experience

April 4, 2011 at 9:19 AM | by | Comments (0)

Your bracket has been busted, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be tuning in this evening to check out the men’s NCAA championship game in Houston. However, once it’s over, things always become somewhat of a downer. Sure the winning team is excited, but fans like us get a little depressed without the thrill of the buzzer beater, so that’s why we’re suggesting a trip to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

The hall of fame is just one part of the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Missouri, so if strolling down memory lane gets a little boring, you can always hit up some of the place’s interactive displays.

Three March Madness Vacation Packages to Take You to the Final Four

March 17, 2011 at 2:26 PM | by | Comments (0)

We know there were some other games the other day, but the real March Madness starts this afternoon. Sure skipping work to watch the games is fun, but it would be even better to leave work and not come back until April. If that’s your plan—and we don’t see why it shouldn’t be—here are three Final Four packages to get you to Houston:

· Sports Traveler
The folks at Sports Traveler won’t judge your bracket, so don’t feel ashamed if your picks didn’t get you too far in your office pool. However, they will judge your credit card, as you’ll need to shell out some serious cash for one of their vacation packages. For roughly $1,900 per person you’ll get four nights at the St. Regis Hotel, a four-day rental car, and tickets to all three games. Just don’t expect courtside seats, as these are upper level options behind the baskets. If you want to upgrade to the lower level seats just throw down another $2,400 per person—oof.

The NBA Goes Across the Pond to Play Games in London Next Month

February 11, 2011 at 9:52 AM | by | Comments (0)

Last year NBA commissioner David Stern was going on and on about London and how his league would play a couple games there next year. Well next year has turned into next month, as a couple NBA teams are going on a pretty far road trip to play a pair of regular season games at London’s O2 Arena on March 4 and 5.

The New Jersey Nets are set to square off against the Toronto Raptors for two nights in a row, but there’s way more basketball to be experienced next month in the UK. The NBA is bringing a sort of traveling basketball road show around the country—so don’t worry if you can’t make it to London—thanks to something they’re calling NBA Basketball Week. The fun starts on February 25, and there will be stops in Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, and Newcastle as they try to spread basketball around the globe.

Five Miami Hotspots Perfect for LeBron James

July 9, 2010 at 9:52 AM | by | Comments (3)

· W South Beach Cabanas:
This spot is guaranteed to see some LeBron action since the b-baller is celebrating his Miami Heat pick here with reservations of six of the hotel's coveted pool cabanas. Even though James took a $30 million pay cut to join the Heat, his paycheck should be solid enough to allow him to book as many of these cabanas as he wants, whenever he wants, with plenty bottle service for his thirsty entourage.

Where and When to Watch the LA Lakers' NBA Championship Parade

June 21, 2010 at 8:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

When the LA Lakers won the NBA Finals on Thursday night, beating the Boston Celtics 83-79, riots in downtown Los Angeles cast a negative light on the celebrations. But the Lakers will correct this today, when they interact with fans during the (hopefully more orderly) official victory parade, traveling with their families on a customized flat-bed float, equipped with audio. Coaches and the Lakers Girls will follow on double-decker buses.

If you're reading this this morning and you'd like to head down to the parade, which begins at 11am PST, you should leave now to grab a good spot, as the police are expecting up to 2 million fans on the two blocks of South Figueroa Street where it'll all happen. The official route is thus: from the Staples Center, traveling south on Figueroa Street to Jefferson Boulevard, where the parade turns east to end at the Galen Center.

There's Still Tickets! Last-Minute Packages for the Final Four

March 29, 2010 at 11:40 AM | by | Comments (0)

This year has not been good for our sports gambling habit, and the men’s NCAA basketball tournament is not making things any better. We’re surprised our bracket hasn’t just been totally canceled, because at this point there’s no point in wasting the effort to tally up our final score. Despite our misfortunes, we’d still like to go check out the tournament’s last few games, and even though we didn’t plan anything in advance there are options. Here’s a few Final Four Indianapolis vacation packages in case you have some extra cash hanging around the house.

· PrimeSport
PrimeSport is offering up several packages that include accommodations and tickets, and none of them are really affordable. However, if you think you can siphon a little cash from the checking account without your significant other finding out, there is one option. For $1,695 per person—assuming two people—you’ll be resting up at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Airport. It’s not that close to the action, but you’ll get transportation to Lucas Oil Stadium for the games. The price of the package includes five nights accommodations and Terrace Level Side Court tickets. It’s not the best vantage point, but it’s cooler than watching on TV.

Visiting The Land of Brown Smoke and Basketball Lovers

Where: Beijing, China
September 14, 2009 at 11:18 AM | by | Comments (0)

With the 60th anniversary of China becoming a communist republic approaching October 1, Claire Duffett took a jaunt around the country for the month of September, starting with Beijing. Nowhere does old and new China collide than in its Capital, and for the next five days, we'll share with you the most up-to-date tidbits on what to see and do, and how many yuan it will set you back.

Post-Olympics Beijing vaguely resembles its former self. Subways are modern, pristine marvels, with train floors cleaner than our own kitchen’s. The cheapness of transportation emphasized its superiority over American and European cities, with subway rides costing about 30 cents in US money and taxi rides up to two kilometers costing less than a dollar.
