Three Travel Contests to Enter Right Now (and Escape Winter)

January 14, 2014 at 9:57 AM | by | Comments (0)

We don’t have cabin fever as of yet, but the winter weather certainly has us thinking of warm weather destinations and escaping for a bit. If the travel funds in the piggy bank are running a little low there’s always a travel contest. Sure there’s a slim chance that you will be the big winner; however, it’s fun to dream and you can’t win if you don’t play. Here’s three warm weather travel contests ending this month:

Win A Trip For Two To Belize – Travel Channel

Swing by and enter each and every day for a chance to win, as the Travel Channel is giving away a $10,000 grand prize trip to Belize. They’re promising nine days and eight nights for two, and they’re including all meals and hotel accommodations in Belize City, San Ignacio, and San Pedro. Check out the Cahal Pech Archaeological Site, the Butterfly Farm in Chaa Creek, and don’t forget cave tubing and ziplining at Jaguar Paw. Entries are accepted through the end of the month, and you’ll have a year to cash in if you’re the big winner. There’s a few lesser prizes as well—like if you’re interested in a Travel Channel luggage tag.

'Vacationers' and 'Travelers' Alike Should Take Advantage of People-to-People Programs

September 19, 2013 at 10:24 AM | by | Comments (0)

When it comes down to it, the travel industry breaks down into two types of tourists: "Travelers" and vacationers.

Some people are explorers, and others are pool-side dwellers (and many of us are somewhere in between). Some are comfortable with new horizons and feel enriched by the new experiences, and some only have a week’s worth of time off per year and want to know what they’re going to get for their money; they don’t want any surprises.

While we’ve always understood the appeal of both sides of the coin, a recent rise in what tourism boards refer to as "people-to-people" programs are helping even the most bashful of tourists dig into the local culture. These programs combine the concepts of traveling and vacationing, providing you with an organized, safe way to connect with the local communities.

One US Airline Sells Flights in Bulk: 12 for $1,800

September 11, 2013 at 7:21 AM | by | Comments (0)

If you’re not familiar with Silver Airways they’re a carrier that kind of operates a double life. They do the regional airline thing under the United Express umbrella out of spots like Cleveland and Washington-Dulles, but they also operate plenty of flights—and sell tickets right through their website—to spots in and around the Southeast, the Bahamas, and Montana. They operate around 200 daily flights, and they do it all with plenty of propeller power thanks to some Saab 340Bplus aircraft and Beechcraft 1900Ds.

Silver Airways can certainly get you to here or there without a problem, but what we wanted to share is what they call a SunPac—‘cause this is what sets them apart.

Getting Hitched Onboard a Royal Caribbean Ship Means a Bahamian Marriage

Where: Bahamas
November 13, 2012 at 3:47 PM | by | Comments (0)

Wedding bells can now ring anywhere Royal Caribbean ships sail with the introduction of onboard nuptials. Leave the details to the experts on the ship and your big day will be just as nice as on terra firma.

This is a first for the cruise line, and the 'Royal Romance' program allows for couples to say their "I dos" and those already wed to renew their vows while on vacation. The ship's captain officiates the ceremony and the registration for the marriage will be based in the Bahamas, the registry of the fleet of ships.

Coachella Jumps the Shark, Lands on a Cruise Ship

July 18, 2012 at 10:20 AM | by | Comments (0)

Whoa. Okay it's official. The live music festival Coachella has jumped the shark so hard it's landed in the deep end of the ocean.

Just yesterday, Coachella promoters Goldenvoice announced that they'd be packing up the popular desert-held music event and adding some water—by theming two cruises after it. The S.S. Coachella will set sail for two consecutive weekends during the notoriously slow weeks of the year for cruising—those right before the Christmas holiday. Brilliant timing if you're a cruise line looking to make a buck, horrible timing for attendees, who will likely have to chose between taking work time off for S.S. Coachella or heading home for the holidays.

And it won't be cheap; no camping or crashing on a stranger's couch possible on this ship. The 2,886-guest Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Silhouette is all staterooms and suites, with packages starting from $500 per person and maxing out around $2,000 per person (of their published prices, "email to inquire" for pricier suites). Remember those amounts do not include booze, soda, taxes & gratuities, shore excursions or travel to and from Fort Lauderdale.

Where to Smoke, Drink and WiFi When Flying Out of Nassau

Where: Nassau, Bahamas
February 9, 2012 at 1:45 PM | by | Comments (0)

Work on the new international arrivals hall at Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport is still underway—but the departures areas are looking pretty nice and, as far as we could tell when flying out on Monday, functioning faster than they did in the past.

One improvement you may be interested in if you like a cigar or a stiff drink before waving goodbye to the Bahamas is the Graycliff Divan Airport Lounge.

This spinoff of the Graycliff hotel, restaurant and cigar company opened its double lounge—one smoking, one non-smoking—last spring opposte Gate C41 in the US departures terminal.

You may not realize it's an airport lounge at first because it looks like a tschotske-filled boutique—and in fact it is. To register for access to your lounge of choice, you must enter through the gift shop.

Three New Airlines Will Touch Down at MIA in November

October 6, 2011 at 1:05 PM | by | Comments (0)

MIA welcomes three new airlines this fall, just in time for winter getaways. Of course, you can already fly to a gazillion places from Miami International but these new airlines bring cheaper fares to the mix for destinations in the Bahamas and Mexico.

Sun Air International Airlines will begin 18 weekly flights from MIA to five destinations in the Bahamas: Bimini, Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay and new routes to Andros Town and Governors Harbour. Great news for anyone hoping to avoid the cruise crowds in Nassau and hit up some of the smaller, more remote and luxurious islands and private resorts.

Where to Go with Your Tax Refund: the Bahamas

Where: Bahamas
March 23, 2011 at 8:47 AM | by | Comments (0)

Tax day is coming, and you are excited not because you look forward to sifting through receipts and credit card statements, but because you're getting a fat refund...probably. The economy may be on its way back up, but you should try to stretch that tax refund as far as you can.

To get the most out of your refund, head to the Bahamas.

The 700-island Bahamas are a good bet for an affordable, spontaneous and quick getaway, since they are only 50 miles off the coast of Florida and there are always plenty all-in-one vacation packages. We recommend watching the deals on sites like Travelzoo and Kayak Deals.

Charlie Sheen Vows to Fly Around the World Instead of Hitting Rehab

Where: Bahamas
February 25, 2011 at 9:31 AM | by | Comments (0)

So. Charlie Sheen owns a private jet. We'd of had no idea he did, except for today the big news is that he went and flew on it down to a "private tropical island near the Bahamas" to do his "rehab" with two porn stars and his soon-to-be ex-wife Brooke Mueller. Well, Brooke has already given up on Sheen and was spotted back at Miami Airport, while Sheen has talked his way into getting his whole show—Two and a Half Men—cancelled for the rest of the season. Oh, and he also managed to have a little private jet photoshoot before setting off.

Here's hoping customs & immigration makes a full sweep of that jet whenever he returns from his tropical departure, because they don't allow you to go on private island rehab if you're in jail.
