Looks Like BWI Won't Be the Only Airport Getting Its Own TV Show in 2012
Do you recall the first ever time you watched The Travel Channel? We do. It was a special moment where we went from being stuck in a Sedona, AZ hotel on an uncharacteristically rainy day to being obsessed with watching the room TV for hours and hours. Nothing has changed; the Travel Channel still produces some of the most inspiring programming as far as armchair traveling goes (once they got over that summer where it was like, Las Vegas show after Las Vegas show).
For 2012, the outlook for addictive series looks very good. Of a slew of leaked shows to debut next year, we're mostly salivating over two:
“Baggage Battles” (six half-hour episodes)
This half hour series follows three teams of savvy “auction specialists,” who travel the world looking to snatch up unclaimed and lost personal property in an attempt to turn huge profits. Follow these specialists as they travel to some of the most important and unknown auctions, where pickers and resale experts bid on everything from lost luggage to abandoned personal property to seized goods of unusual merchandise.“Miami International Airport” (working title) (six half-hour episodes)
Go behind the scenes at one of the busiest airports in the country. “Miami International Airport” features an unprecedented cross section of an exciting airport staff as they deal with the stresses of getting over 100,000 strangers through its airport safely, every day.
A ha! So it looks like BWI won't be the only airport to have their own show in 2012. And if you're into hotel shows as well, HotelChatter has the hot goss on another of Travel Channel's upcoming offerings: "Hotel Impossible."

What's in Your Carry-on, John Walton?

Travel voyeurs, every last one of us! It's time for a new series wherein you show off what you're working with. That is, what necessities make it into your carry-on bag. Want to be featured? It's crazy simple. Shoot us an email with a nice big photo of your bag contents and a little bit about why they have pride of place in your carry-on. And of course include your Twitter handle if you so desire.
Next up in the series after peeking into the bags of illustrious travelers, we've got yet another: John Walton, journalist for Australian Business Traveller:
So this is my 'long trip' pack. I take less stuff with me for short jaunts, though it's mainly that I leave the 17" MacBook Pro and iPad behind and take my 11" MacBook Air instead. I've actually been known to travel for two weeks with only hand luggage, although that does involve a fair bit of hand-washing in hotels. I'm kind of an airline ninja like that.
Clockwise, spiralling inwards, from bottom left:
· British Airways Club World amenity kits, old (blue) and new (brown). The brown one is the perfect size for my Airport Express wireless router, which I carry everywhere, and the blue one fits my ethernet cable, various USB sticks and 3G-wifi wireless modem with its charging cable.
· Berocca, echinacea and multivitamins. I swear by this cocktail to keep me manflu-free on long trips. Some of it might be a placebo, but I so don't care. It works.

I can pack for a week in a 20-21 inch suitcase. Besides clothes, wrapped in a plastic sleeve and accouterments that don't wrinkle, I add:
· One pair of shoes
· One pair of fit flops
· A small point-and-shoot camera
· Fortnum & Mason tea bags

Delta is Happy to Ho Ho Haul Your Christmas Tree This Season
If you’re off to grandma’s house next week to celebrate Thanksgiving and you want to bring a Christmas tree back home with you—no problem! Delta will gladly carry your tree under the belly of the plane, and in fact, they’ve been doing this for a few years now and are the only domestic carrier to do so—we think.
Delta is hardly an extension of Santa's sleigh, so obviously there’s some special rules and regulations when it comes to checking a Christmas tree. First, we’re thinking that you might need to remind the agent at check-in that this is totally normal, as this is probably not one of Delta’s most widely used policies. Next, be sure to get ready for plenty of stares from fellow passengers and well as those TSA folks that seem to always be hanging around.

If I’m traveling alone for business I usually just take a carry-on and don’t check anything. Here are my essentials:
· Ambien: Rarely used, but good to have when I need to get some sleep and jet lag is keeping me up.
· Toiletries: Since I don’t always stay at the Four Seasons or a luxury boutique hotel (have to inspect other hotels after all!) I bring my own toiletries from past 5-star stays: Bulgari, L’Occitane, etc.
· Pens: I’m a fan of the Pilot Precise V5 and always carry a couple. Just have to make sure to get them back from fellow passengers who borrow them for filling out customs forms.
· Espresso: I special order this Nescafe Espresso powder in bulk, it’s that good. I usually just put some in a small plastic vial rather than taking the entire container with me.

What's in Your Carry-on, Juliana Shallcross?

Next up in the series after peeking into the bags of illustrious travelers, we've got yet another: Juliana Shallcross, Editor of our sister site HotelChatter.com:
This is what was in my carry-on from a recent 24-hour trip to Vegas, a trip that I make pretty frequently. Actually, this is my "personal bag" (a Gucci tote from 2005) as defined by the TSA. The rest of my stuff is in a green Kipling carry-on suitcase and includes my Macbook, power cords, two pairs of shoes, two outfits (one fancy for meetings and one casual for the trip home), a long-sleeve shirt and pants to sleep in (because hotel rooms are always so darn cold) and my TSA-approved sized toiletries in a TSA-approved plastic baggie.
But while those things are important, here's what I like to have near me during the flight and once I land in Vegas:
· Lip stuff. Check it, there are three things of lip stuff there. I cannot stand having dry lips and Vegas is dry lip city.
· Visine. For some reason, I am guessing again it's because of the dryness, my contacts always act up in Vegas. So Visine is necessary but I also pack my glasses for back-up (in the black case.)

'Amazing Race' Host Phil Keoghan Has Some Serious Baggage, Will Sell It on HSN
Do you know how to tell when a celebrity's career is slowly going down the drain? When they develop of clothing line or a perfume. That's a big warning sign. Licensing your name is also worse (ah hem Donald Trump mattresses), so when we heard that Amazing Race's host Phil Keoghan is hawking his own luggage line, we got scared for him and, as it turns out, rightly so because he's about to start selling it on the Home Shopping Network (HSN).
The collection is called "Phil Keoghan NOW" and Phil will apparently be sharing his “tips and tricks” on HSN on November 11th at 2 AM, 1 PM and 8 PM EST and November 12th at 9 AM and 6 PM EST. Both the 20" spinner luggage and the packing system are $129.95 each, while his packing system is $79.95. We'd hope, however, that any serious travelers out on the road as often as Phil (or even not nearly as often) would have already found a sturdy, stylish case right for them. Hey, even Target has some nice stuff in its travel aisles these days Victorinox, for example).

Next up in the series after peeking into the bags of illustrious travelers, we've got yet another: Mark Hughes of C3 Metrics, who limits himself to 11 items:
· Hanes Undershirts - Because "you can’t beat the value" (so says Michael Jordan)
· 1950’s Shades - Because the future of the online media is so bright…you know the rest
· C3 Metrics business cards - Because there’s no second chance for a first impression
· Yoga workout clothes - Because it kills any other workout and I can do it in a hotel room

In October 2010, I set out to travel the world for a year. I packed as little as I could without sacrificing safety, and over the course of my travels I ended up in places that ranged from -40F in the winter (Mongolia) to 120F in the summer (India). Everything worked out. I bought extra layers really cheaplyusually around $25 for a thick jacketand donated them when I no longer needed them.
Everything fits into a carry-on sized backpack and weighs ~25lbs, including the camera, which alone weighs 6.5 lbs.

If You Can Handle Living in Alaska, You Get Free Checked Bags on Alaska Airlines
Do you live in Alaska or are you moving there? Winter may be descending and bringing the cold and darkness along with it, but there's light for travelers! Alaska Airlines wants residents of the state to only think of them when it comes to booking flights, and so the airlines has just announced a new set of Alaskans-only perks.
It's called "Club 49," and members of Alaska's Mileage Plan frequent flyer program with an AK state code in their address can join it for freeright here. So what is Alaska Airlines giving to those who live way up north? Well, for starters, two free checked bags on each flight. That's pretty sweet and you save $20 per bag, sure, but we're also jealous of an annual gift of two certificates for 30% off one-way, full flex Y base fares, bookable within four days of the flight for last-minute getaways. The winter giving you seasonal depression? Time to use those passes for a long weekend in California.
Finally, Club 49 members will enjoy weekly fare sales to and from Alaska, specifically targeted at them. Again we're jealous, but not jealous enough to move across the country and northwards. Now if only JetBlue started a club just for New Yorkers...

Next up in the series after peeking into the bags of Max Graham, Annemarie Dooling, Megan Starr, The Points Guy and Jillian Smith, we've got Peter Shankman, a Small Business Evangelist/Angel Investor/Speaker/Consultant and an insanely frequent flyer:
Everything I carry for travel fits into my ScotteVest jacket. I sit on the board of ScotteVest and do own a stake in their company, so I'm making that clear up front. That said, though, I love, love, love my vest; it acts as another carry-on for me, and means that I don't have to carry a backpack.
So, staring at everything in it from above, on the left, we have:
· Band-aids on the sleeve. They fit into the sleeve pocket. You never know when you're going to need a band-aid. (Especially from someone who picks at his cuticles when he's nervous or stressed).

If I'm going to be away for a week or less, I rely on my Filson wheeled carry-on. It holds everything and still manages to make me feel like the chicest traveler in the airport (or train station.)
I'm always with at least one laptop, usually a Mac and a PC, and though I work in the digital division, I'll use any computer until its last breath, and then some. This VAIO has been rebuilt a few times, but I just won't let it go.
The mask is from the NYC immersive experience "Sleep No More," which I finally checked out last week after my photog friend, Travis Commeau, and celeb blogger buddy, Trent Venagas, had seen it multiple times with rave reviews. I hear Punchdrunk, the producers, are toying with a travel experience. I'm in!
