Excess Baggage? Make An Informed Choice With Airline A La Carte

February 24, 2009 at 10:01 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

Ever try prising information out of an airline's "helpful" pre-flight tips page? Sometimes it seems like you'd be better off getting a donation for the ACLU out of Dick Cheney. A new website purports to collect all that information in one place but even its name sets us up for disappointment.

Airline A La Carte conjures up images of glorious choice, but in reality only informs you of the choices you no longer have -- say, to check a bag without paying a fee. The list of airlines' baggage allowances included is fairly comprehensive, and we liked the specificity of some of the rules they've ferreted out.

Naomi Campbell Gets Community Service for T5 Brawl

June 20, 2008 at 3:23 PM | by pbb | 0 Comments

Another pugnacious passenger is facing 20 years, but Naomi Campbell got off relatively easy in a British courtroom today. After a fracas at London Heathrow's Terminal 5, the frequently feisty supermodel was looking at a six-month jail term.

Rather than lock her up, though, a magistrate decided that 200 hours of community service and a $4,500 fine would be enough. Though only four of the six charges against Campbell were pursued, the Crown Prosecution Service wasn't going easy on her, its director Nazir Afzal said:

Ms. Campbell was aggressive, hostile and violent to people who were simply trying to do their jobs. Her behavior fell far short of what is acceptable.

So will British Airways will take her off its blacklist after she serves her sentence?

Travel Tips: Why You Shouldn't Flip out at the Airport

May 29, 2008 at 12:50 PM | by pbb | 0 Comments

Remember last month when always-infuriated supermodel Naomi Campbell supposedly flew off the handle at London Heathrow? We do!

She's now been officially charged in London with assaulting a policeman, disorderly conduct and "using threatening behavior and abusive words to cabin crew." Her trial starts June 20, and she's facing a maximum sentence of six months in jail plus a five-figure fee if convicted on all counts.

Let this be a lesson to you, frustrated fliers: No matter how bad Terminal 5 may suck, it's probably better than a half-year "holiday" in a British prison.

Supermodels Go Through Baggage Hell, Too

April 4, 2008 at 9:22 AM | by egw | 1 Comment

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was arrested yesterday for throwing a temper tantrum at Heathrow Airport. Allegedly, Campbell, who once beat an assistant with a telephone and supposedly threw a jewel-encrusted Blackberry at her assistant, flew into a rage while boarding the plane and started yelling at the gate staff. When security showed up, she spit at them and may have even punched them.

The outburst was supposedly brought on by Campbell's discovery that one of her three bags did not make it on the plane. Yup, she fell prey to the madness of Terminal 5. Jaunted doesn't recommend dealing with lost luggage in this manner, even if you are a supermodel.
