A Brussels Airlines A330, like the one Spencer took on his BRU-JFK flight
"Freak out like it's Hurricane Sandy 2.0" - the Facebook status of a friend, after last night's news that a doctor in New York City had been diagnosed with Ebola.
Of course his status is tongue-in-cheek, but we won't be surprised to see a few face masks on subway straphangers this weekend, not to mention increased use of those teensy-weensy Purell bottle keychains.
Doctors Without Borders volunteer Craig Spencer flew Brussels Airlines for his travels to and from West Africa. Spencer returned from his trip to Guinea via Brussels, and arrived back in JFK on October 17 on Brussels Airlines flight 501.

In case you've been living in a cave (or, more likely, traveling all day), the biggest news right now is that of the massive diamond heist pulled off on the tarmac at Brussels Airport. Essentially, a gang of eight masked men drove through airport fences and right out to the cargo hold of a Switzerland-bound Helvetic Airways plane. Dressed as policemen, they held the airport workers at gunpoint while removing a haul of 120 packages and $50 million (some estimates say it's more like $350 million) in uncut, unregistered diamonds from the Fokker 100, before speeding off. All the while, passengers on the plane were oblivious to the drama playing out only meters away.
The diamonds were originally headed from Antwerp to Zurich, but their whereabouts lie somewhere entirely different now, and since the only clue is a burned-out vehicle discovered near the airport, there is little hope of recovering the haul.
So. Doesn't this sound like the makings of an awesome movie or what?!

If you’re flying next week, beware the red and pink cheap chocolates of the Hudson News airport outlets. While sending something in advance of Valentine’s Day is probably the best idea, you can always grab something nice for him or her on your way home from the airport, and no we're not talking about flowers from an arrivals hall vending machine. Here’s five airport candy shops that should satisfy any sweetie’s sweet tooth:
Sugar Pop - Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
Even if you don’t need something for the upcoming Hallmark holiday, it’s worth it to stop in at Sugar Pop within the mall section of Terminal 1-Lindbergh. The place is loaded with different colors and sugary options, and they even have some teddy bears and other cuddly critters to go along with all those calories. This isn’t exactly the place for gourmet confections, but if you’re looking for oversized lollipops or personalized treats, it'll more than do.
Candy Empire – Singapore-Changi Airport
Sitting within the basement level of Terminal 3 is the spot you need to visit for chocolates, cookies, and everything in between. They promise stuff from Australia, Europe, and the United States, so if you can’t find something that fits your needs, you don’t know what you need. A few pieces of foreign candy from Candy Empire should hopefully smooth over any sort of trouble caused by not being home on Valentine's Day.
