Kicking Back With BBQ And Music In The Austin Air At Tim's Porch
Last night, we kicked up our feet and drank a cold brew, nestled among aged oak trees at Austin, Texas’s newly renovated music venue, Tim’s Porch. We enjoyed the rockin’ bluesy sounds of John Gaar and Malford Milligan at the recently modified site, formerly known as the “Backyard” amphitheatre. The audience, an undoubtedly Austin-esque conglomeration of colorful characters, ranged from to crazy college kids to hippies in their sixties.
The Show:
John Gaar, originally from Louisiana, unleashed his soulful flair for strumming the guitar during the concert, a spicy compliment to Austinite, Malford Milligan’s Al Green-like sound and style. The collaboration was both entertaining and soothing. Everyone rocked out, including a 4-year old girl who burned up the dance floor all night. With multiple decks of comfortable, intimate seating and ample parking, Jaunted gives Tim’s Porch a thumbs up.

Nothing Reminds Us More Of Austin Than 'Aerial Dance Troupe'

Austin is a town celebrated for its eccentricity, where everything seems to have an alternate flavor, and so you can probably guess that their favorite local dance troupe isn’t your run-of-the-mill ballet company.
Well if weird is what you want, this weekend’s performance from Austin’s Blue Lapis Light dance company shouldn’t disappoint. The show, Impermanence, is semi modern dance meets cirque de soleil meets parkour, and involves dancers who are hooked up to aerial harnesses, allowing them to fly through the air and leap all around the 150-foot tall J.J. Pickle Federal Building in Austin’s financial district.
The dance performance, or circus, or whatever it is, runs this Thursday to Sunday, and costs $20—but the final performance, on Sunday, is a pay-what-you-can show to let everyone have a bit of the unusual fun.

Jason Voorhees is Back and Looking for Revenge in Austin
The reboot of "Friday the 13th" opens today in a theater near you. The original version was filmed in Blairstown, NJ and Camp NoBeBoSco which until now was the one and only Camp Crystal Lake. But this time, filmmakers chose the city of Austin, Texas and its surrounding communities as the filming location. Here’s a guide to Jason’s new digs, if you are daring enough to visit.

Anti-Valentine's Day Parties Make Singles, Us Happy

Love stinks! If you're already cringing inside thinking about this Wednesday, you're not alone. Single people everywhere are declaring their right not to wear red and buy chocolate for Valentine's Day -- and marketers are listening, according to the AP. Here's how you can celebrate with like-minded people if you aren't already partied-out from that party Kevin Federline event in Boston:
Washington, D.C.: Turn your vitriol into cold hard cash at the Mothertongue Anti-Valentine's Day Poetry Slam, A $200 cash prize is in the offing for the person who can best command the mike with his or her rendition of, "It's Always The Ex-Girlfriend's Fault: An Epic Poem." The Black Cat, 1411 14th Street NW. 8:30PM, $10.
San Francisco: The monthly Be Nice Party was created by a couple of Burners (attendees of the Burning Man festival) who didn't understand why we all can't get along. For V-Day they're combining their usual low-key meet-and greet with a dance party that starts at 11PM. Pick the event you like best, or stay all night. Catalyst Cocktails, 312 Harriet Street. 6PM, 21+
Austin: Your last boyfriend couldn't be dragged to anything involving the words "performance art," so thank goodness he's not around to see the art-rock band Tuna Helpers perform at Room 710. It's the three vixens' final show, and they've pulled out all the stops (including getting a Joy Division cover band to open while the $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon special still holds). 710 Red River Street. 8PM, $6.

Austin's Pretty Limits

Summer is upon us, or those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. at least. And that means toasty temperatures, whether you're on the field in Gelsenkirchen or sweating it out in the subway/tube/metro in your home city. Yuck.
We thought we'd shout out the photos of Austin on Flickr from dracoLLL's photostream, since wherever you are, it's probably hotter in Austin. Like, way hotter, though often with better barbeque. So don't complain, and instead check out this cazy pic of Austin's capitol building. Yikes! Didn't War of the Worlds look like this?
