Two Reasons to Get to Berlin Fast

Where: Berlin, Germany
October 28, 2008 at 9:20 AM | by pbb | 0 Comments

We love the German capital Berlin so much that we don’t really need a reason to go there. But here are two anyway.

First up, from October 31 through November 3, Art Forum Berlin 2008 will be the place to see what’s new in the contemporary art scene. It’s the lucky thirteenth time the Art Forum will be held, and if you’re wondering just what kind of work you’ll see, know that organizers say it’ll be art "with freshness, actuality and a certain cool roughness." Sounds like they're describing the crowd.

In the following week, the JazzFest Berlin starts on November 5 and will finish up late in the evening of November 9. Jazz musicians from the world over will set up in a bunch of Berlin venues, including the jazz clubs A-Trane and Quasimodo.

Old Stuff Travel: Paris' Biennale des Antiquaires

Where: Avenue Winston Churchill, Paris, France, 75008
August 25, 2008 at 12:15 PM | by sedona | 0 Comments

Whether you're just a browser or a more serious collector, you'll want to get to Paris September 11-21 for the 24th Biennale des Antiquaires, when 95 of Europe and North America's top art dealers will come together to show off (and sell) their significant pieces.

Billing itself as "a red-letter rendezvous for the arts market," the Biennale has just about everything, including antiques, jewelry, paintings and decorative arts. You'll find works from Picasso and de Kooning as well as more esoteric stuff like a 15th-century Flemish manuscript.

Even if you're not quite in the market to buy, seeing these gorgeous things in Paris' Grand Palais--just refurbished and re-opened in 2006--will certainly inspire. The Biennale is open daily 11 am-11 pm; admission is €20 ($30).

Teton Travel: Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival

August 18, 2008 at 10:00 AM | by sedona | 0 Comments

Wrap up summer and welcome fall in the stunning Western Rocky Mountains at the 24th Annual Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival in Wyoming. Much more than your standard, simple art fair, this one runs from September 4-21, with everything from Native American art to cuisine to music to gallery walks to workshops; in all, more than 50 events will take place over the 18 days.

Some highlights? The "Taste of the Tetons," which allows visitors to sample tons of food, dessert and wine in historic downtown Jackson (tickets are just $1 each). Or the QuickDraw Art Sale and Auction, where 30 artists create original works on-site and spectators can then bid on them.

There will also be tons of opportunities to view and buy Western art, jewelry and even to take in a Jackson Hole Cowboy Jubilee Historic Ranch Tour where you can feast on local barbecue, hear cowboy tunes and listen to area ranchers describe their daily lives. It just might help you prolong your summer dreams of escaping to the ranch a while longer.
