This weekend sees the conclusion of yet another successful Art Basel Miami Beach, the modern art fair that annually draws over 50,000 visitors to do some $500 million in sales. It's a good time, trust, but it's actually only one of a set of three Art Basel events every year. If you enjoy yourself at one, add it to your iCal to collect all three in 2014:

This week is arty-farty all right, as December 5 - 8 runs Art Basel Miami Beach, an annual collection of modern art fairs that attracts 50,000 visitors to do some $500 million in sales. Of course that's just the tip of the iceberg, as Basel is just as much about the societal buzz of the week as it is about the serious artwork and structured events. To enjoy it all and come out swinging, there's five things to have on you at all times during Art Basel:
· A good guide to the fairs.
Every year brings new satellite fairs to compliment the original Art Basel offering in Miami Beach's Convention Center. The only issue is that the area has grown, and now Wynwood's Context and downtown Miami's River Art Fair are draws of their own. To know what's on when, for how much, and how to direct your taxi there, we like the Miami New Times' .pdf guide, and the HuffPost has broken down some of the better talks and workshops throughout the week.
· Good shoes.
In short, this means no flip flops. Even poolside hang-outs are better served by wearing slip-on espadrilles, as Art Basel brings dressier requirements to Miami Beach. Now factor in that you'll be bouncing around all 80-degree day between art fairs, food, your hotel, and parties, and style-forward, dependable shoes become the best option.

Here at Jaunted, we're pretty partial to street art. In fact, the last couple years have seen us cut entire days from traveling just to scope out the rough creativity evident on the street of Santiago, Chile; Stavanger, Norway; Milan, Italy and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Exotic destinations all, but here's a little secret: the best street art we've ever seen is right here in the USA.
The recipient of this compliment is Miami's Wynwood district, home to galleries aplenty and, once a year, the Design Miami art fair during Art Basel. Considering the artistic appeal of the neighborhood, it's really no surprise to turn corners and be awed by a mural. What we are shocked to find is a community that's literally wall-to-wall stupendous street art, from graffiti to wheatpaste and beyond.

OH MAH GAWD you guys. So we like food trucks, that much is plain, but we love dessert food trucks even more. Something about decadence on the go seems like the answer to all of life's problems. After spending last week in Miami, we can pinpoint that even further to the awesomeness that are deep-fried Oreos.
The yummy is made by taking regular ol' Oreos, dunking them in batter and popping in a deep fryer. Dust with powdered sugar and serve. Occasionally the food truck (called 80s Sensation) is parked in Wynwood at NW 2nd Ave and NW 23rd Street and they specialize in such junk food indulgences. To be fair, we didn't know they were '80s-themed or what was going on; we just saw the sign "deep-fried Oreos" from across the parking lot and made a bee-line for it.

Fashion designer/global mogul Diane von Furstenberg needs no introduction. There's so much we could say about her, from her international career path to her time as a member of the "jet set" when that term meant something, but it's the simplest thing we'll speak of now: her relationship with water.
DVF's mantra is a simple one: "Love is Life." Recognizing that one cannot live to love without the sustaining power of water, she's collaborated to design the 2013 limited-edition designer Evian bottle, wrapping it with that very mantra. To promote it, Diane jetted up to Art Basel Miami Beach from Brazil this past weekend, which is where we caught a moment with her, heels sunk into on the sand at Soho Beach House.
The water (as you can see from our photos) was ridiculously tempting that day. Little aqua waves broke on shore and so we asked the globe-hopping Diane for a few of her favorite places to go for a dip.

YAYit's Saturday! Let's talk Art Basel Miami Beach. The annual contemporary art event—which encompasses several art fairs, art installations around the city, and a gajillion parties—brings in the big spenders and the struggling creatives alike for four days of fun in the sun.
The official dates are Thursday-Sunday, December 6-9, but it's this weekend that sees the most interest from people outside the art & design industries. Yes, even regular people can attend. Though tickets to hit any of the main fairs cost double digits, there's plenty gratis happenings for a sweet taste of this infamous event.
Here's our four favorite free events, open to all:
Good luck putting that in your checked bag: Brad Pitt toured Art Basel in Switzerland yesterday and dropped over $1 million on art. Apparently the
brand new soon-to-be father has a bit of the nesting impulse; chief among his purchases was a $293,000... table.
He also picked up a lamp and some chairs. (You can feast your eyes here.)
It's easier to bring giant art in through the airport than, say, perfume in a four-ounce bottle bought outside security. But you might want a refresher on duty-free rules. Not that Super World Travelers need to handle that kind of thing--they have staff.

Nah, we're kidding. Hilton made her first appearance at the opening party in South Beach on Wednesday night, where she caused a scene over Greek ex-boyfriend and party host Stavros Niarchos, even reportedly punching his date! (Paris and Stavros met up in Miami last year under better terms; she had been dating a Swedish model, while he has been linked to Mary-Kate Olsen.) What is the allure of the man Go Fug Yourself refers to as "Stabby Nachos"? Well, his $275 million inheritance from his family's shipping company, perhaps.
If you want to join in the sob fest over the love of shipping heirs lost, HotelChatter has all the info you need about catching the tail end of Art Basel.

We finally got around to the latest issue of Departures, and it's jam-packed with the usual hot (and haute) destinations and gear. And though we're already getting over Miami Beach, Craig Robins' article on the topic snagged our attention. It's all about Art Basel: the more-or-less week long excuse to slink around Miami gulping canapes and scoping modern art.
Since the online version is only available to American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders, we'll have to fill you in on the best bits. First, concentrate your efforts on the Design District, slipping over to South Beach when the need arises. (The Moore Space Loft has your art and Elements has your lunch.) Make sure you visit Design Miami, being hosted at the Moore Building and then skip to some of the smaller nearby galleries. Finally, don't miss the Saturday night block party "Art Loves Design." Who knows, a week of this, and we might fall back in love with Miami.
