Where: 30 Rockefeller Plaza [map], New York, NY, United States

Last night, while the country watched a new episode of 30 Rock, we took the elevator to the actual Top of the Rock for a party to celebrate the launch of the new Chase Sapphire, a traveler-centric rewards card. Chase has partnered up with The Travel Channel to promote the card, and as a result, the party was co-hosted by none other than Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern.

Munching through multiple chocolate and praline-covered bacon strips with a sunset view of the city below, we managed to tackle both Bourdain and Zimmern to chat about some current travel trends. For their answers to one of the biggest airline questions right now, you'll have to wait for the full video reveal on Monday, but for now we'll share what they name as their favorite vacation spot...

Who Wants To Buy The Travel Channel? Anyone? Bueller?

August 24, 2009 at 11:14 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

"Confessions of a Travel Writer" must have gone over even worse than we thought: According to the L.A. Times, Cox Communications is quietly selling off the Travel Channel, its only national cable network.

Cox grabbed the Travel Channel last year in a deal with Discovery, since which time its audience has grown some 35 percent among adults ages 25-54. (We'll call that the "Wistful Staycationers" cable package.) But insiders say Cox never wanted to be in the cable game, which is why it slapped a $700M price tag on the channel and is in talks with NBC Universal, News Corp. and Food Network owners Scripps.

Anthony Bourdain Uncovers Non-Sucky Venice

Where: Venice, Italy
January 13, 2009 at 10:03 AM | by BS | 1 Comment

Venice is among Europe's most visited cities, and for many travelers it's also one of the most disappointing, once they realize this ancient city-state is chock full of cruise ship passengers, overpriced tourist traps, $100 gondola rides and, as Anthony Bourdain so succinctly puts, beaches that attract "a who's who of international douche-dom."

On this week's "No Reservations," Bourdain is the latest traveler intent on finding that non-touristy, trapped-in-time Venice. You know, the one that doesn’t suck.

Surviving AC: The Celebrity Chef Invasion

Who goes to Atlantic City? We sent Neal Ungerleider to find out.

With Atlantic City casinos in a competitive frenzy for guests' dollars, everyone needs a gimmick. It seems like Caesars has found a successful niche of its own: Hosting television food show-related events.

We arrived in Atlantic City during the Toast to the Coast festival, which trotted out celebrity chefs/cooking personalities Roland Meisner, Ingrid Hoffman and Guy Fieri for cooking demos and offered a live show with Giada De Laurentiis. There was also the chance to meet Hoffmann and Fieri at a pool party over at Harrah's (whose previous guests include both Kim Kardashian and Tila Tequila), along with a food expo and several other events spread throughout Harrah's Atlantic City properties.

Tony Bourdain Flies Continental

Where: Rome, Italy
June 23, 2008 at 11:45 AM | by pbb | 1 Comment

At least he did on his latest trip into Rome. From our new favorite iPhone-carrying tipster:

Saturday. 8 am Rome time. At Fiumincino, Anthony Bourdain gets his and his family's luggage. The stars are just like us. Flew Continental from Newark, my flight, saw him on it.

Clearly Bourdain should be happy that checked bags are free on transatlantic flights. Maybe he's in town to check out the awesome eats?
