A Super World Traveler Goes Solo to Appreciate Art Basel

June 10, 2009 at 11:27 AM | 0 Comments

Where in the world will Brad Pitt turn up today? That is the burning question on the minds of envious travelers like us this morning.

On Monday, Brad was spotted at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. where Angie is currently filming the thriller Salt. DAR Constitution Hall has welcomed performers ranging from Aerosmith to Duke Ellington over the course of its 80 year history. You can check out their schedule for information about upcoming events.

Yesterday, Brad took a rare solo trip to check out the international art show Art 40 Basel, in Basel, Switzerland. At the exhibit, he seemed particularly interested in a 24k gold Piece entitled End of Knowledge.

Art 40 Basel is taking place through June 14th. Considered the world’s premier international art show for modern and contemporary works, “Art Basel features nearly 300 leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.” Artists represented at the show include both the great masters of modern art and upcoming artists who are creating some of today’s most innovative paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and installations. Art 40 Basel’s website features a full catalog of the artists represented in the show as well as ticket information.

Date Night For The Super World Travelers in Antibes, France

May 21, 2009 at 9:31 AM | 0 Comments

Please welcome our favorite super world travelers back onto the scene. Tuesday night in Antibes, France, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had a romantic dinner at Michelangelo's restaurant. The two are in town while Brad promotes Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds at the Cannes Film Festival.

The restaurant, located about seven miles outside of Cannes, is known for serving a variety of Mediterranean cuisines and being a nice dinner escape for celebs at Cannes. Last night's entree came with more than just a dose of Brangelina; Twilight star Robert Pattinson also made an appearance at Michelango’s, although he was a third wheel, dining with Emile Hirsh and his girlfriend.

In other date night news, The new Captain Kirk, Chirs Pine, was spotted out with Audrina Patridge at the Red Lion Tavern in Silverlake, CA. The two are reportedly dating, or at least Chris wishes they were dating. The Red Lion is known for their extensive selection of German beer so maybe he can blame it on the alcohol and move on before he ends up a special guest star on The Hills.

Where Did Angelina Jolie Go Apartment Hunting?

February 18, 2009 at 8:49 AM | 0 Comments

Angelina Jolie caused a camera-snapping ruckus on Monday in New York when she came to look at an apartment building. So where will the Pitt crew be settling down? Not on the tony Upper East Side!

Meet the Riviera -- a grande-dame apartment building on Riverside Drive near the Hudson River, in the Washington Heights neighborhood made famous by last year's Tony winner "In the Heights."

Perhaps a bizarre choice given that last time they were in town Maddox attended the Lycée Français on East 75th Street, some 8.3 miles away, but you can get way more for your money than on Madison or Park (although a 3-bedroom, 2-bath place will still set you back about $1.4 million -- and this brood needs two!) When it opened in 1911, the architects advertised every apartment would come with its own clothes dryer.

Brangelina Kids Are Bad Hotel Guests

February 11, 2009 at 3:50 PM | 0 Comments

Angelina Jolie had her halo pretty much intact at the BAFTAs when it was revealed that she’d come to London straight from Thailand, where she’d been working with Myanmar cyclone victims. But not all her family are so angelic, if reports are to be believed.

The Sun newspaper is reporting that the four elders of the Pitt-Jolie Brood (from Maddox down to Shiloh) ran riot in the corridors of the Dorchester hotel when mum and dad were are the award ceremony on Sunday night.

Brangelina had booked out nearly the entire third floor of the Park Lane hotel, and, according to the paper, told the kids they could play outside their suite. A disgruntled neighbour is claiming that they took that as an excuse to “run up and down the hallway for over an hour”. Quite why they’d want to leave the suite in the first place is beyond us – at £4000 a night, we’re assuming it was pretty stacked with things to do.

Angie recently boasted to Entertainment Tonight that the seasoned little travelers like packing. Maybe she should have a word with them about how to be good hotel guests. Or at least slip some eyemasks into their cases next time round.

Can We Get This Award To Go?

February 9, 2009 at 11:09 AM | 5 Comments

A host of award shows brought some celebrities out, but not all of them: Gwyneth Paltrow attended the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in a sparkly Burberry number to support husband Chris Martin, whose band Coldplay performed with the backing of a marching band; Katy Perry, who was up for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (but lost to British singer Adele), performed in a Carmen Miranda-esque fruit ensemble.

Kate Winslet picked up a statue for Best Leading actress at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) in London, for which she was nominated both for her role in "The Reader" and "Revolutionary Road." She posed on the red carpet with presenter Daniel Craig. Less than two weeks till the Oscars! And speaking of the Oscars, Jessica Biel appeared in Oscar de la Renta at the Academy Awards' Scientific and Technical Awards Saturday night to give out all the little gold men that don't fit into the telecast.

But award shows aren't always the trip worth taking: Angelina Jolie arrived at the BAFTAs after a visit to a refugee camp in Thailand for cyclone victims from Myanmar, proving she still thinks some things are important than her career. (She and fellow Super World Traveler Brad Pitt were both up for leading awards; Jolie lost to Winslet, above, while Pitt lost to Mickey Rourke.) And last year's Grammy darling Amy Winehouse, who performed via satellite when she was not granted a visa to travel to L.A. for the ceremony, skipped the festivities altogether: Rumor has it she is staying in Jamaica to record her third album within reach of, uh, "inspirations." Well, there's always next year.

Knox and Viv Jolie-Pitt Smile for the Cameras at Tokyo Airport

January 27, 2009 at 1:05 PM | 0 Comments

After much speculation about "Where are the twins?" Super World Travelers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie showed off their newest team members, Knox and Vivienne, today at the Narita International Airport in Tokyo.

This is first time the world has seen the twins since their glam photo shoot a few weeks after they were born. It's a good thing too. We hear President Obama was just about to issue a search for them. (Star and Us Weekly magazines have very powerful lobbyists working for them.)

The twins were also assisted by their teammates--old man Maddox, savvy vet Zahara, rising phenom Pax and sophomore star Shiloh. If we did the math correctly, the Jolie-Pitt championship league travels with eight players. And it turns out, the team apparently likes to handle their own luggage.

"Our kids are always packing," [Angelina Jolie] told Entertainment Tonight. "They like to pack; it's a game in our house.

"It can get very hard trying to find 20 minutes to close your eyes if you've been up since four in the morning," Jolie said. "We travel so much, we never have to adjust. We change school time to four in the afternoon if we have to!"

We just hope that newcomers Knox and Viv can keep up with the two-a-days. After Japan, the family is set to land in Long Island in March for a few months.

Stars' European Vacations Say No To Naycations

January 19, 2009 at 8:48 AM | 0 Comments

If 2009 is the year of the naycation, the great cities of Europe will be fighting even harder for tourist dollars. But their celebrity support is hardly in doubt: Stars like Lady Gaga, Super World Travelers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Katy Perry used the Continent as a playground this weekend.

Gaga went out to a London club with her entourage, while Perry's had to hold her hand after she was mistakenly called for an award she didn't win in Cannes at the NRJ Awards.

The world's most famous couple went out on a romantic dinner -- with Pitt's mustache -- in Berlin, where they lived for a while this fall.

Traveling The Globe Instead Of Getting Globes

January 12, 2009 at 8:30 AM | 0 Comments

Miss the big party? Why not? While Hollywood got all glammed up for the Golden Globes, some stars opted to stay away--but not stay home.

The choice was easy for Victoria Beckham, who schlepped her brood of boys to the Colosseum in Rome to have them pose with some gladiators. And surprisingly, "The Hills"' Audrina Partridge, herself not a nominee either, chose Cabo--but she didn't end up getting married on a whim there.

Mischa Barton continued her attempt to be more like us by posting bikini pictures of herself in the Indian beach getaway Goa. But Steve Martin probably didn't want those photos of himself bodysurfing in St. Barts to get out. Ditto with Rihanna, who covered her face to hide a rumored cold sore while out shopping in Dublin, Ireland on tour.

Ironically, it was the Super World Travelers who set their course for La-La Land--nominees Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie took home no prizes except each other. And Pitt's mustache.

Big winners Sunday night at the Globes were "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," which nabbed prizes for best drama and best musical or comedy. Kate Winslet snagged two acting awards for her lead role in "Revolutionary Road" and supporting role in "The Reader"; Mickey Rourke, Sally Hawkins and the late Heath Ledger were also honored. But everyone at the water cooler will be talking about how "The Wrestler" director Darren Aronofsky flipped off the cameras faster than NBC was able to blur it during Rourke's speech. Oh no! The children!

Black Friday, Brangelina Style

December 1, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

Lining up at Wal-Mart is for the rest of us! Angelina Jolie took son Maddox to New Orleans' Little Toy Shop in the French Quarter. The store, which specializes in "tiny collectible figurines and die-cast miniatures, toys and puzzles," closed over the weekend especially so that the Jolie-Pitts could do a little shopping.

While rainstorms caused minor delays last night up and down the East Coast, travel was relatively light this weekend due in part to an eight percent drop in volume overall from last year. But we understand why the Jolie-Pitt fortress may have preferred to stick close to home (or rather, the home away from home purchased when Pitt was filming "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button").

Brad Pitt's Mustache Eating Dinner?

November 7, 2008 at 9:20 AM | 1 Comment

The Super World Traveler displayed a new, and some might say unfortunate, look at Mercer Kitchen in SoHo last night. Hey, where's Angelina?

Just like his buddy George Clooney, Pitt grew the mustache for a role, this one in Quentin Tarantino's new flick "Inglorious Bastards." It was for this movie that the Jolie-Pitt Circus moved to an estate outside of Berlin so Brad could commute from the set.

We're surprised Brad didn't get the memo: It may have a coveted spot at the trendy Mercer Hotel, but Frank Bruni gave the Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant 0 stars, stamping it "satisfactory." Maybe one of his newer restaurants in New York, like Perry Street or Spice Market, would be a better culinary choice. Or he could wait for J-G's new project, opening in Vancouver in 2009--by which time that facial hair should be long gone.

Angie Returns from Afghanistan Visit

October 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM | 0 Comments

Fertility goddess, action-movie heroine and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has returned from a two-day visit to some of the most war-torn regions of Afghanistan, her first trip to the country. Her stops included Kabul, once on the mend but now back in the throes of violence.

She also traveled to Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, UN reports say, and the Lower Sheikh Mesri settlement site, where some 1,400 refugee families have returned to the country from Pakistan since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, only to set up homes in shelters and tents. Residents shared with Angelina stories about their hardships and their limited access to basic necessities.

Upon leaving Afghanistan, the actress made a plea with the international community to provide more support. Then, we assume, she returned home to the international community of her own.

Super World Travelers, What's So Great About Wannsee?

September 24, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

Southern France is so last summer: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have moved their brood to a southwestern corner of Berlin known for its lakes and historical infamy. Picturesque Wannsee features a long inland beach along two lakes that's perfect for the Jolie-Pitt kids, so long as nannies abound.

Pitt just signed on to Quentin Tarantino's remake of the Italian World War II classic "Inglorious Bastards," in which a group of prisoners escape around D-Day and find themselves wedged between both sides. The film is shooting in nearby Potsdam in the next few months, allowing Pitt to commute to "work." ("Inglorious Bastards" costars "National Treasure"'s Diane Kruger, horror director Eli Roth and "The Office"'s B.J. Novak.)

Sadly for us, it looks like the closest the Super World Travelers are going to get to the US this fall is on the big screen: Pitt's "Burn After Reading" topped the box office two weekends ago, while Jolie's "Changeling" will be feted at the New York Film Festival.

Wannsee is known to German history buffs as the location for the conference that outlined the "Final Solution"--the nest of policies that led to the Holocaust--in 1942.
