Back in seventies, when Iran and the US were chummy, it looks like Madison Avenue did a little pro bono work for Iran Air, which by the way is still the major airline of Iran.
In this video, a fresh faced Iran Air representative brags about the airline's excellent food, first run movies, and the ability to take you on an adventure you will never forget.
"Well, here we are in Tehran, the exciting capital of Iran", starts the video. While we have no idea if Iran Air still has great food, after watching this, we can't shake the image of Sashon Baron Cohen doing a parody of this video for a fictional Kazaktstan Air on Da Ali G show.
Longtime Jaunted readers know we have a little bit of a Borat obsession over here. The man sets travel trends at a torrid pace. Yesterday, on a beach in Cannes, he did it again, debuting what looks like some type of banana slingshot bathing suite, or maybe it is an upside down Star Trek symbol suite. Actually, come to think of it, it looks like one of those sterogram posters where if you relax your eyes and stare at it long enough, you fall into a trance and see hidden pink dolphins jumping out of the water. On second thought, if you are able to relax your eyes while staring at Borat in the above photo, seek professional help immediately.
Can you put a price on comedy? The government of Kazakhstan sure thinks so. They're threatening to sue British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (better known as Ali G.) because of the "unacceptable" and "derogatory" nature of his character Borat, who hails from Kazakhstan.
In a statement to the press, Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Yerzhan Ashykbayev said:
"We view Mr. Cohen's behavior at the MTV Europe Music Awards as utterly unacceptable, being a concoction of bad taste and ill manners which is completely incompatible with ethics and civilized behavior...We do not rule out that Mr. Cohen is serving someone's political order designed to present Kazakhstan and its people in a derogatory way. We reserve the right to any legal action to prevent new pranks of the kind.
Guess the Kazakh government wasn't too pleased with Cohen's behavior at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon a few weeks ago. At the show, which he hosted as Borat, he entered in an Air Kazakh plane flown by a one-eyed pilot holding a bottle of vodka.
Is this the first time somebody has been sued by an entire country? That oughta help out the old Q rating.
No word on whether Cohen has actually been to Kazakhstan, but Borat may be working on a new version of an old song...
