Alaska Airlines, Delta and United Load Up on New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Alaska Airlines:
Everyone loves Hawaii, and that’s especially the case over at Alaska Airlines. To fill the need for all that island love the carrier is starting up some new service. This week they’re doing the nonstop thing between San Diego and the island of Kauai. We’re not sure if the awesome new livery will be making the journey halfway across the Pacific, but it will be a Boeing 737 doing the flying fun. Flights leave San Diego around 10am local time, and they arrive over in Hawaii at 12:30pm—local time once again.
· US Airways:
It’s time for residents of Charlotte—or those just connecting through CLT—to get out of town, as US Airways is sending some planes elsewhere. This week the carrier started flying nonstop between Charlotte and São Paulo. Just in case you’re keeping score—this is destination number two down in South America for US Airways. Boeing 767s will be the planes doing the heavy lifting, so hop aboard and hit the skies.

Delta, United, and Alaska Airlines Lead The Week's New Routes News
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Delta:
If you’re thinking about heading to Costa Rica later this year, then it might be a good idea to check out what Delta has to offer. They’re expanding their offerings between Minneapolis-St. Paul and San José, as they’re starting a new seasonal nonstop option that will run on Saturdays. Boeing 757s will head back and forth, as things are scheduled to run between December 21 and March 29 of next year. If Minneapolis doesn’t work for you—or your connection—Delta will also be flying to San José from both Atlanta and Los Angeles.
· United:
No big international news from United this week, but we’ll take what we can get. This week it sounds like airline officials are ready to add a new flight—or resume an old flight—from Cleveland, as the plan is to start nonstop service between Cleveland and Austin. SkyWest will be doing the flying with some less than spacious CRJ700s, and the flights are scheduled to do the nonstop thing six times each and every week. The flying fun begins on September 25, so feel free to check things out.

Alaska Airlines Reveals Their Exotic New Paintjob
Way back when Alaska Airlines held a contest for the kiddos—or keiki—over in Hawaii, as the carrier needed some inspiration for a new livery. They weren’t revamping their current design, but they were looking for something new, snazzy, and colorful. They got exactly that, and now it looks like Alaska Airlines has revealed it for the very first time.
We have to say that this new airplane paint job looks pretty darn great, and it might just be one of our new favorites. The design—thanks to Aaron Nee from Kaiser High School—was chosen from just shy of like 3,000 different entries. It shows off a little bit of Hawaii with images of a canoe, a yellow hibiscus, as well as the island chain.

Special $99 Flights May Be Fastest Way Around That Collapsed Bridge
Interstate 5 between Seattle and Bellingham had something of a major problem just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. As you've probably heard, the Skagit River Bridge collapsed into the water below, but thankfully the injuries were minor considering the situation. Now it’ll be weeks before some temporary supports and spans can be hoisted into place, so in the interim travelers must take the long way or call up Alaska Airlines.
The carrier is looking to help out those stuck by the bridge collapse, and they’re offering up special fares between Bellingham and Seattle. As they put it, they’re helping to “bridge the gap,” and the one-way specials begin at $99 each way.

New Route News Thanks to JetBlue, United, and Alaska Airlines
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· United:
It’s time to head down to Central America, as United is getting ready to boost and improve some service to and from the area. A couple weeks ago they started weekly service between Washington-Dulles International Airport and both Guatemala City, Guatemala, and San Jose, Costa Rica.
Things will run all year long, but the carrier didn’t stop there. They’re also doing the nonstop thing between Chicago-O'Hare and San Jose—again it’s in Costa Rica. Boeing 737-800s will be operating these flights, which means plenty of room in United Business, Economy Plus, and regular ol’ United Economy as well.
· Alaska Airlines:
More flights are coming to Portland—the one in Oregon—as Alaska Airlines is getting ready to send their planes and people to both Atlanta and Dallas-Ft. Worth. The new flights will start up on September 16, and it’ll be Boeing 737s doing the heavy lifting between the new city pairs.
These flights will operate throughout the year, and the plan is to do one one-stop flight in each direction every day of the week. If you’re intrigued by these new flights head over to Alaska Airlines’ website and start booking, as they’re offering up one-way flights for as little as $129.

Alaska Airlines Slims Down Seats, but Beefs Up In-flight Power
The folks over at Alaska Airlines are cashing in all the spare change they find between the seats, as they’re looking to spend around $100 million to upgrade the interiors on some of their planes. Unfortunately they’re not adding wider more comfortable seats, but at least the upgrades they are making should give the airplane cabins a nice refresh.
Upgrades are coming to all of the carrier’s Boeing 737-800s, 737-900s, and 737-900ERs, as they replace the old seating surfaces with some new designs from Recaro. The new seats have a much slimmer design, so traveling butts might be a little less comfortable. However, the slimmer seats add more space for more travelers, and that’s a good thing when you’re an airline trying to make money.

JetBlue, AeroMexico and Korean Air Add New Routes and New Cities
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· JetBlue:
The rumors have been kicking around for quite some time, but it now sounds like things are becoming a reality. JetBlue is arriving in Worcester, Massachusetts, and if all goes according to plan it’ll be a more convenient option for those that just don’t want to take the ride all the way out towards Boston. This is destination number 80 for JetBlue, and from Worcester they’ll head down to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando—those are in Florida—beginning on November 7.
The flights will head back and forth once daily each and every day of the week, so start thinking about asking for some time off from work. Tickets can be snagged for as little as $60 each way through April 10, so get that credit card ready to go.
· Alaska Airlines:
Things must be going pretty well for Alaska Airlines, as they’re getting ready to add some more flights across the country. Their option between Seattle and Boston is a hit, so now it looks like they’re getting ready to boost this service even more. Beginning on June 9 the carrier is starting up a third nonstop flight between the two cities. Things will run on a seasonal basis through around August 23, and after that it’ll just drop back to a couple times per day. Of course this could be a great addition for business travelers, but we’re thinking about the options for a long weekend in New England or the Pacific Northwest.

This Week's New Routes News: WestJet, easyJet, and Virgin America
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· WestJet:
We haven’t heard too much from the folks over at WestJet lately, but apparently that’s just because they have been busy planning some new options. This week it sounds like they’re coming to visit us here in the United States, as they’re getting ready for some new flights to spots like Myrtle Beach and Dallas. Starting on May 2 there will be nonstop flights between Toronto and Myrtle Beach a couple times per week, as it looks like Thursdays and Sundays will be the days for flying. If you want to head to Dallas instead—they’ve got you covered—as WestJet will be linking Calgary with Big D beginning on April 29 each and every day of the week. These are destinations number 19 and 20 for WestJet to the United States, and we say keep ‘em coming!
· Virgin America:
It’s a double-dose of new route news out of Virgin America this week, so we thought we’d mention it one more time. Up first are their plans to link San Francisco with Austin beginning on May 21. Tickets are already up for sale, so if you’re looking to head between SFO and AUS they’ve got you covered. The next planned route for the carrier is some seasonal service up to Alaska, as they’re thinking about connecting San Francisco with Anchorage. Those flights will head back and forth like six times per week, and things will run all summer long between June 6 and September 9. Tickets are already up for sale—one-way fares between SFO and AUS will set you back as little as $89, but it’s going to be $199 between SFO and ANC.

Alaska Airlines Goes Tropical with Their 'Paint The Plane' Winner
Remember way back when Alaska Airlines was looking for a little help to repaint one of their planes? Well it looks like they now have a winner, and one of the Boeing beauties will be heading into the hangar for a fresh coat of paint sooner than later.
Kiddos from Hawaii were asked to pick a design that celebrated creativity, education, and the fun that is exploring new places. The spirit of the islands definitely came through loud and clear with some of the winning entries, and as you can see above the final choice is going to look pretty darn awesome plastered on the outside of a Boeing 737.

Alaska, Austrian Airlines and Frontier Bring Plenty New Route News This Week
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Alaska Airlines:
To us it’s pretty clear that Alaska Airlines may like Hawaii even more than Alaska. They're about to send even more love out to the islands, as once again they’ve announced another nonstop flight over to Hawaii. This time it looks like San Diego will be getting a flight right over to Kauai—Lihue to be specific.
The flights will start up on June 7 of next year, and will be a nice compliment to the other flights out of San Diego to the islands of Maui and Oahu. That’s not the end of the news, as Alaska Airlines is also linking San Diego with Boston beginning on March 29. They might be totally different destinations, but if you’re in San Diego both Hawaii and Massachusetts are now one flight closer.
· Austrian Airlines:
It’s time for yet another new nonstop flight over to Europe. The plan is to connect Chicago with Vienna beginning on May 17, 2013, five times per week. Boeing 767s will be doing the heavy lifting across the Atlantic, and the flights will have lie-flat beds up in the business class cabin as well as a new in-flight entertainment system in both cabins. In total there will be around 26 nonstop flights between North America and Europe next summer, so no matter when you need to go—Austrian Airlines has got you covered.

This Week It's Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and US Airways Heading Here and There
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Alaska Airlines:
We’re pretty sure that we’ve mentioned this in the past, but now it’s time for Alaska Airlines to finally start the flying. In total it looks like this week—and this weekend—is when Alaska Airlines is starting up three new nonstop options between west coast cities and the island of Hawaii. Portland—the one in Oregon—got their very own flight over to Kauai earlier in the week, and yesterday was the day for nonstop flights to begin between Maui and Bellingham, Washington.
Finally, for those that really need an escape from the cooler temperatures there’s also a nonstop option between Anchorage, Alaska and Kona over on Hawaii’s Big Island that starts tomorrow. All of the new options are seasonal, so get your flying in before they disappear around the middle of next April.
· Southwest Airlines:
It isn’t exactly time for Southwest Airlines to start flying internationally just yet, but some new flights down to Puerto Rico seem like a step in the right direction. San Juan is going to be the carrier’s first city outside the continental United States, as they’re planning to start heading there as soon as April. Nonstop flights will arrive in San Juan from both Orland and Tampa beginning on April 14, 2013. Tampa will be getting one daily flight, and Orlando scores most of the flights with three daily roundtrip options.
It sounds like this is all part of Southwest taking over some AirTran routes, but as of now it is just these city pairs that will be getting the blue-bellied planes. No plans for Mexico—or Hawaii—just yet, but again flying over the water for this first time is a good start.
