SkyTeam Celebrates 10th Anniversary with 30% Off Around-The-World Tickets

July 21, 2010 at 10:31 AM | by JetSetCD | 1 Comment

We love a good airfare sale, but when around the world travel is involved, we love it all the more. Until September 30, you can score SkyTeam's around-the-world ticket for up to 30% off.

The offer is to celebrate the airline alliance's 10th anniversary after it began in 2000 with just four members—Delta, Korean Air, Air France and Aeromexico. Now that they're up to 13 member airlines, including newest joiners Vietnam Airlines and Romanian carrier TAROM, you can really push that around-the-world ticket into some exotic locations.

Five Defunct Airlines and Their Best Vintage Sales

July 12, 2010 at 9:31 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

We’re always on the lookout for the next airfare sale, but sometimes it's nice to remember the good old, cheaper days. You won’t be able to use any of our latest finds to help you get anywhere, but hopefully it will be a nice stroll down memory lane. Here’s five of our picks for defunct airlines and their vintage sales.

· Trans World Airlines:
The airline better known as TWA was swallowed up by American Airlines in 2001, but before their disappearance they were trying to get butts in the seats to raise some cash. Back in April of 2000 they wanted passengers to beat the winter blues by taking advantage of cheaper fares to the US, Canada, Caribbean, and Europe. For those looking for a classier escape, St. Louis to Paris was $698 roundtrip. New Yorkers could head to Seattle or Los Angeles for just $298, but for $498 we’d rather take a trip to Honolulu. Just remember that all travel must be completed by September 15, 2000.

More Cheap Airfares Come to Twitter with 'bmifridays'

July 2, 2010 at 10:40 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Jetblue may be the most influential airline currently on Twitter, but it's not just passengers they're impacting. Their popular @JetBlueCheeps account—where super-discounted, limited-time-only fares are announced on Tuesdays—has obviously influenced one European carrier enough to start their own version.

Please welcome bmifridays, from UK carrier BMI! British Midlands is the first Brit airline to launch such an offer, and although the super-discounted routes won't be announced weekly like on Jetblue, they budget prices are comparable.

Spirit Air Now Charging For Both Carry-On and Checked Baggage

April 6, 2010 at 8:29 AM | by JetSetCD | 5 Comments

Would you like to fly for 1 cent? Spirit Air can make it happen, if you'll just join their airfare club and pay their upped baggage fees. Thus there's two parts to today's news on Spirit Airlines: new baggage fees and airfares for a single penny.

Fees for checked and carry-on baggage: Effective for flights booked today and on for flights after August 1, passengers on Spirit Airlines must also pay to bring on a carry-on above a personal item. This is a completely new fee, since carry-ons used to be free. Not anymore! To take on any bag aside from personal items like purse or briefcase, you'll be paying $20 online if you're a Spirit club member, $30 online for non-members and $45 at the airport. You will get "priority boarding," however. Along with this new fee, the checked rates have gone up to $15 online for members on domestic/$20 international, $25 online for non-members on domestic/$30 international and $45 for anyone checking their bag at the airport. And that's just the first bag!

Spirit Airlines, this is getting prohibitively complicated! Now for the sale information...

Jetblue Throws an Airfare Sample Sale with Flights from $29

March 23, 2010 at 1:45 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

When we went looking for Jetblue's "Cheeps" deals on Twitter this morning, we didn't see any! Where were the sale airfares that they promise to deliver every Tuesday then? Well, it turns out that they're having another big airfare "sample sale," with almost all routes on sale for the next few months, but only on sale for today and tomorrow.

They've done a sample sale before, but this time it's different—they're also displaying how many Trueblue points you can redeem for the flights, and those are discounted too. All one-way flights are between $29-$149 or, if you choose to redeem your points, are between 5,000 and 11,100.

The sale page itself is nicely laid out, so that our eyes are darting between the JFK-St. Maarten flights for $129 each way and the JFK-Chicago flights for $69 each way. Decisions, decisions! Just like a real sample sale, both might be too good to pass up.

Book a $10 Flight on Jetblue Today Only, To Celebrate Their Tenth Anniversary

March 8, 2010 at 9:05 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Ain't no party like a Jetblue party, 'cause a Jetblue party don't stop! Now if you'll excuse us for quoting a Coolio song first thing on a Monday morning, then we'll tell you that Jetblue has a serious doozy of an airfare sale today, to celebrate their 10th anniversary in operation.

The $10 B-Day Sale is exactly what you'd hope it is: one-way flight on Jetblue are only $10 on the first ten routes the airline ever flew from JFK. The only catch is that this ridiculously low, Ryanair-like price must be booked today and you can only fly for so cheap tomorrow (March 9) or Wednesday, March 10. It's a godsend for last-minute travelers who can jet around during the week, but it will make those with 9-5 jobs weep for the fact that they wouldn't dare jet down to Fort Lauderdale and back for $20 roundtrip tomorrow.

The full details, after the jump!

Get Comfy En Route Down Under With Qantas' Biz Class Sale

Where: Australia
October 21, 2009 at 9:23 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

Australia seems like a long way from just about everywhere, right? (Maybe not from New Zealand!). So if you want to get there in a bit of comfort, it would be great to splash out on a business class seat. Aussie airline Qantas wants to make this financially easier for us for a while, with a 40% off sale on business class seats from Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York down to Sydney or Brisbane.

Business class is certainly a nicer way to travel on those long, long-haul flights, although the funny thing is that Qantas claims to have invented business class back in 1979; if you prefer to believe Wikipedia, it was actually British Caledonian in 1978.

Air Asia's Big Sale Makes Us Want To Book Some $17 Flights

October 19, 2009 at 9:13 AM | by amandak | 0 Comments

One of our favorite low cost carriers, Air Asia, is not just cool because it keeps adding more routes—like Kuala Lumpur to Paris on the cheap and the Indian destinations like Thiruvananthapuram just to name a couple of last week's highlights—but it's also giving us ideas for our 2010 travel plans by holding a big airfare sale at the moment.

For bookings made between now and Sunday, you can get bargain tickets for travel between January 11 and April 30, 2010 for a bunch of Asian routes. The cheapest flights get as low as 19 Ringgit ($5.50) but they're mostly internal Malaysian flights; to get from Kuala Lumpur to further afield, there are deals like KL to pretty much anywhere in Indonesia or Thailand for 59 Ringgit ($17) and KL to Australian destinations for 199 Ringgit ($58). Get booking fast or we might snap up all the seats first.

Southwest's Airfare Sale Will Fly You To Fall Foliage For $59

September 29, 2009 at 5:03 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Oh autumn leaves, how we love thee. We love thee so much that the simple fact that Southwest Airlines used fall colors to illustrate their airfare sale made us perk up. A $59 one-way flight also helps get our attention too, and SWA is offering such deals on routes like Phoenix to San Diego and Chicago to Columbus, OH.

To score the low prices, you must book by October 13 and travel by February 11, 2010. There are black-out days however: Fridays and Sundays, so if you're willing to fly on a Saturday and return later during the week, then you are in a perfect position to reap the benefits of the fall sale.

In particular, we've got our eyes on their two direct routes from New York-LaGuardia to Baltimore for $59 and Chicago for $109. It's still a fresh route and Southwest is still excited about it, and the enthusiasm is rubbing off on us. Time to dream about fall foliage in Maryland and Illinois...

JetBlue's Sample Sale Will Fly You To Vegas for $24

September 28, 2009 at 4:36 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

While JetBlue finally began service out of LAX at the start of the summer, it still pays to fly out of Long Beach. Travelzoo alerted us to a one-day only JetBlue "sample sale" from Long Beach to Vegas for $24 outbound and $29 for the return. The sale is good for Tuesday and Wednesday flights from October 6 to December 16 but you must book by tonight at 11:59pm MDT. Also included in the sale? One way tickets out of Vegas to New York or Boston for $99 a piece.

Speaking of Las Vegas and JetBlue, recently ousted star of "Jersey Boys" at The Palazzo, Erich Bergen, was Twittering from the JFK JetBlue terminal this morning. Now that's he's out of a job, he just may move into the terminal because it has Borders, Jamba Juice, Lacoste and free WiFi. And so much more. But sorry, no stage yet.

Airlines Slashing Prices Deeper Than Usual For Fall

August 21, 2009 at 2:49 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

It's been a rough summer for the airlines and the upcoming fall doesn't look much better. Leisure travel is down and business travel, usually the airlines' bread and butter, is way down. The industry is responding the way industries respond to this sort of thing:

Airlines are cutting fares deeper than usual this fall in an effort to fill seats. American and Southwest both launched fare sales this week, and United is running several sales, too. While it's common for airlines to use discounts to fill planes during the slower fall travel months, the discounts this year are deeper and more widely available than last fall, said FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney.

The bargains aren't as enticing as what the airlines were doing right after the recession hit, but they're still objectively deep cuts and much better than anything you could have gotten last year.
