This Week is All About Bermuda, China, and Liberia Thanks to New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Air China:
After a few days in Milan you might just get sick of being in Italy—we’re kidding—but if you do there’s always Air China to help you escape Europe and head into Asia. Beginning on June 15, the carrier will be sending Airbus A330s back and forth between Milan and Beijing just in time for the summer tourism season. The flights will run three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. They’re the only airline flying nonstop on this route, so expect to pay a little bit of a premium if you decide to hop between continents anytime soon.
· Air France:
If you’re looking to impress your friends with a unique trip, you might just want to consider some of Air France’s new options to West Africa. Earlier this month they started up flights to Freetown—that’s in Sierra Leone—as well as flights to Monrovia, Liberia. They’re even heading to the capital of Guinea; that’s Conakry of course! All the flights will depart from Paris—not surprising—and will be operated thanks to a little assistance from those trusty Airbus A330s.

Air Canada and Continental Muscle In on Porter Airlines' Toronto Party
We had a feeling that little Porter Airlines was going to have to battle it out with the big boys sooner rather than later. It looks like that time is now, as Air Canada Jazz and Continental Airlines have been given initial approval to do their thing in and out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Center Airport.
The airport authority hired some consultants to figure everything out, and they think 44 spots should go to Porter, 30 of them to Air Canada, and just 16 slots to Continental. Porter hasn’t had any competition at the airport yet, but Air Canada was obviously a little jealous of their success. There’s going to be a full review by judges and other important legal people this July, and hopefully we’ll officially find out who gets what.

Air Canada Jazz Just Makes Us Say 'Awww'
Do you have a favorite airplane? No, we don't necessarily mean a Boeing 747 or an Airbus A380, but an actual flight that perhaps you see all the time, at the same time, at an airport or which constantly flies over your house?
The little Air Canada Jazz Canadair Regional Jet CRJ200ER might be ours, simply because every time we roll into Chicago-O'Hare Airport, there she is, sitting little and pretty at one of the first E gates in Terminal 2. We can't but "awwww," especially when the little jet is surrounded by bigger, bluer United planes.

Air Canada Jazz Makes the First Move in the Fight for Toronto
The party might be over for Porter Airlines. For quite some time they have been the only game in town when it comes to flying out of the convenient Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Sure they have awesome service and excellent in-flight amenities, but a lack of competition helps out a bunch with their success. We knew Air Canada and their buddy Jazz were planning something for some time, but it appears that their secret is now out.
Jazz is ordering 15 Q400 turboprop planes from Bombardier for around $450 million. These are pretty much the same planes that Porter Airlines has been using to ferry passengers to and from Toronto, so apparently the suits at Jazz have caught on to what planes are successful on these routes.

Porter Airlines Preparing To Battle It Out With Air Canada Jazz
Throughout the economic downturn, Porter Airlines has been doing everything right. They’ve impressed travelers with their service, expanded to new routes, and have served Toronto City Centre Airport without too much competition. Well that’s about to end as another airline wants to get a chunk of the air traffic from the city’s smaller airport. After all, the airport is a little more convenient to all that downtown business.
Air Canada Jazz is looking to return to end Porter’s dominance over the airport’s commercial traffic. Jazz used to come and go from the downtown airport until early in 2006 when they suspended their service, claiming they had been evicted by a firm that was in cahoots with the CEO at Porter Airlines. However, the exclusivity agreement between Porter Airlines and the airport ends early next year, and Jazz is ready to once again roll down the runway.
