Human Powered Travel: Around the World by Bike and Kayak

September 9, 2008 at 1:30 PM | by Dan Gould | 1 Comment

Ever made some ridiculous promise like "I'm going to ride my bike to work from now on?" Probably didn't last long, right?

But there are a few crazy (awesome) people like Erden Eruc out there, who take it to the extreme. Eruc plans to bike and kayak his way across three oceans and all six continents. As a bonus, he'll ascend the highest mountain on each continent while he's there.

At this point, he's already cycled from Seattle to Alaska, climbed Mt. McKinley and returned to Seattle. After that little trip, he biked to San Francisco and paddled himself across the Pacific to Papua New Guinea.

Stay tuned to Eruc's website, which documents his Around'n'Over project, for the next step of his human powered journey. And see if you can't break out the bike one day this week.

Adventure Seekers Get Xperienced

Where: 52 Prospect St. [map], Jersey City, NJ, United States, 07307

There is nothing quite like an 'adventure-filled' vacation. Your car breaks down, your flight is late, your kid breaks an arm....But what if you could choose a real adventure-filled vacation--and tailor it to your exact specifications.

Check out Xperience Days. The NJ-based adventure-travel/experience company provides customized trips to suit your every desire. These include an Air Combat "g-pulling" dogfight flight in a fighter plane, a private full day of Ferrari racing in a Ferrari F355 or your very own weightless flight on G-Force One (above). They've also got some tamer options like fly-fishing, makeover days and professional dance lessons.

Of course, like most adventures, these don't run cheap. The Ferrari racing goes for $21,000 and the G-Force One flight costs more then the down payment for your house. But still...it's the adult chance to re-live those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' Days.
