LA's Best Clubs For Stand-Up Comedy

Judd Apatow’s latest film, Funny People, opens today with a pretty sure bet at dominating the weekend box office (did you read ‘Judd Apatow’s latest film’?) Unfortunately, the tale of two LA-based comedians played by Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen is getting mostly less-than-stellar reviews. But whether or not the movie and its parade of comic cameos (Sarah Silverman, Eminem, James Taylor) delivers the laughs, we’ve got stand-up on our minds and figured we’d take a look at LA’s best bets for live comedy.

Adam Sandler Gets In Touch With His Dark Side

Today, if you happen to be in Southborough, MA and hankering for some celeb-spotting, Adam Sandler and his favorite sidekick, Rob Schneider, as well as David Spade, Salma Hayek and Chris Rock, are all to be found at Pilgrim Church at 15 Common Street.
The usually upbeat cast will be at the church all week filming a somber funeral scene for Adam's new movie, "Grown Ups", which is being called "The Big Chill 2.0" as the plot involves a group of friends who reunite on Fourth of July weekend twenty years after graduating from high school.
Yesterday, several lucky onlookers received autographs and handshakes from cast members Sandler, Spade, Rock and Schneider but unfortunarely they didn’t see much of the actual scenes or Salma Hayek, since most of the action took place inside.

Adam Sandler Telling Bedtime Stories In LA
Tonight, "Bedtime Stories" with Adam Sandler premieres at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The theater opened in 1926 as LA’s "first home of spoken word" and was the hot spot of its day. In 1989, The Walt Disney Company led a museum-quality restoration, and El Capitan is now the exclusive first-run theater for Disney movies, including "Bedtime Stories."
Meanwhile in Brooklyn, "Cupid" is filming at the New York Transit Museum. You might remember "Cupid" 1.0 that starred Jeremy Piven in the late ‘90s. (Or not since it only lasted 13 weeks.) ABC decided to give the series another shot with a new cast and a new producer, Rob Thomas.
Today’s location, the New York Transit Museum, is housed in a 1930s subway station containing vintage subway cars, antique turnstiles and a working signal tower. The museum also features specialized exhibits about engineering, the streets of NYC and the birth of auto travel in the US. Their most popular, though, is The Annual Holiday Train Show, now open at the Gallery Annex and Store in Grand Central Terminal, through January 19.

Box Office Shocker Travel: "Zohan" Popular... with Israelis?
Critics gave a jaded eye-roll to Adam Sandler's latest flick in which he plays an Israeli assassin-slash-hairdresser, expecting it to garner half-hearted protests for its outsized characterizations. But "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" found an unlikely audience in Israelis, the very people Sandler's character spoofs.
