Set Sail Aboard The Zumba Cruise In 2016

May 11, 2015 at 9:05 AM | by | Comments (0)

It’s probably a safe bet that the last time you went on a cruise you gained some weight. We’re hardly judging, and we’d likely do the same. Between all the buffets, umbrella drinks, and relaxing, it's easy to pack on some pounds. But now there’s a cruise that might help you lose a few instead: Royal Caribbean is teaming up with Zumba.

Pack your parachute pants (or whatever they’re called) and hit the high seas with the inaugural Zumba Cruise, set to depart Fort Lauderdale on January 25, 2016. They’re promising the fittest and most fun cruise ever, but we’ll believe it when we see it — because even just thinking about all that exercise kind of tires us out.

The Hills Will Be Alive on May 24 for the European Day of Parks

April 1, 2015 at 8:55 AM | by | Comments (0)

Here in the nifty fifty we have all kinds of days and weeks devoted to national parks, but apparently we aren’t the only ones celebrating the great outdoors. Those in Europe get in on the fun as well as European Day of Parks is a thing and it’s coming up next month.

This year things are scheduled to take place on May 24, as they embrace the motto—Nature is our Business. The events and activities depend on the park, but expect lessons on the importance of protected areas to the development—environmental and otherwise—of the region. It sounds like special marketplaces will be set up to show off local products and other green goodies.

Things have been taking place like this since 1999, after the folks over at the EUROPARC Federation thought something like this might be a good idea. So if you’re in the neighborhood towards the end of May be sure to skip a museum and head into a park, show nature some support, and enjoy the day.

Skip Powerball and Enter This Grand Canyon Lottery Instead

February 11, 2015 at 6:35 PM | by | Comments (0)

The Powerball jackpot is approaching $500 million, but there’s another lottery worth checking out this month. That’s the one over at the Grand Canyon, as it’s time for the annual entry period to score a chance for a non-commercial river trip.

Winners won’t be heading out on the Colorado River until 2016, but with only 472 permits available for 12 to 25 day river trips during next year, this could be a big win for an outdoor enthusiast. For those looking to put names and information in the hat for a chance to win note that applications are accepted between now and noon on February 24.

Did You Know You Can Ski Inside Yosemite National Park?

November 18, 2014 at 3:45 PM | by | Comments (0)

As you prep for ski season by tracking snow reports and searching for deals, you're no doubt making a mental list of which hills you'd like to hit. We'd like to put another on your radar, one you may not have known existed: Badger Pass Ski Area inside Yosemite National Park.

That's right. As if Yosemite couldn't get any more glorious, it's best kept secret is that it offers downhill skiing during the winter. To be fair, it is pretty modest when compared against the other major players over in Tahoe. It only has 10 runs, a maximum vertical drop of 800 feet, and 85% of its terrain is dedicated to beginner and intermediate levels. But it's a cool choice for beginners who want to learn to ski in style, especially this season as it celebrates its 150th anniversary.

November 18, 2014 at 10:17 AM | by | Comments (0)

The cooler weather has finally arrived, and there are two options—well, we guess three options. Stay inside and watch television, fly somewhere warm, or train and prepare for a little athletic competition. We’re leaning towards the third and final option, as registration has opened for one of the country’s best races.

The Krispy Kreme Challenge takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 14, 2015, so there’s plenty of time to plan and prepare—and with the Valentine’s Day date maybe you can even find a romantic runner to share in the big day.
