Training Camp Travel: Follow the Cleveland Browns Onto the Field
July 31, 2014 at 11:55 AM
Are you ready for some football?! There’s still a few months before the first official kickoff, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t time for a sneak peek. Training camps are set to do their thing later this month, so if you’ve always wanted to check out the scrimmages and practices now’s the time to start planning:
There’s been a lot of moving and shaking in the offseason over in Cleveland, and we’re not talking about LeBron—we’re talking about the Browns. The team got rid of their old coach and brought in Mike Pettine to run things, so there’s some optimism about the team for 2014. Then of course there was the NFL Draft, and the fact that the team is now the home of rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel. We’re not sure if he’ll start the season, but at least training camp will give you an opportunity to check things out.
· When's Camp:
Training camp is already underway, so now’s the time to get your fellow fans together and plan your visit. Registration in advance is required, and some days are already sold out; however, there are still a few options available from which to choose. Camp runs through Friday, August 15, and then after that the preseason games begin. Everything takes places over at the team’s training facility in nearby Berea, Ohio—so not too far to go to take things in.
· What's it Cost:
Save your money for your Johnny Manziel jersey, as there is no charge to join in on the training drills and practice sessions. The team promises you’ll be even closer to the field and the action then in years past, and thankfully all that extra football won’t cost you a cent. Just note that the gates open an hour before things begin, so maybe show up a little beforehand to get a good spot.
· What Else:
This weekend brings some kind of family day event to the University of Akron, and there will even be a little scrimmage for fans to check out as well. Of course they’ll be rolling out the merchandise and other team goodies for fans to purchase, so be sure to budget for some 2014 t-shirts in advance. Food, beverages, and other items within the hospitality tents will also be available, so there will be some other stuff to do in case watching practice isn’t as interesting as you thought.
