Meet the World's Newest Airport Parking System, 'Robot Ray'

Where: Germany

The best new thing in airport parking garage technology has now arrived over at Germany's Dusseldorf Airport, and we're totally jealous of the locals who get to use it when leaving their cars behind.

Basically, the system is a robot valet that takes care of parking your car. It even has a cutesy name, Robot Ray. It doesn’t exactly drive your car into an available parking space - it actually lifts it up (think forklift) and carries it over to the appropriate spot.

The car is fully scanned before moving the vehicle, so the system knows the dimensions to prevent any dings, dents, or damage. Rest assured that if things don’t go according to plan, the robots are fully insured. But considering they can carry over three tons and were built by the Germans, we’re thinking everything will be okay.

As you might assume given the fancy pants technology, it's not cheap to use. Parking with Robot Ray will run you €29 ($40) per day. We're glad we don't live in Dusseldorf, because we'd definitely be tempted.
