$2 Billion is the Pricetag for This US Airport's New Terminal

Your next trip to or through Salt Lake City might be just be a little bit different than before, as today is the day when the bulldozers and construction crews start doing their thing. It’s all part of the airport’s plans for the future, as $1.8 billion in new terminal cash is now officially being spent.

All that money will get the city and the airport a brand new terminal, but like we just said—it doesn’t come cheap. It also doesn’t come quickly, as things aren’t expected to open up to the flying public until sometime in 2022. Right now the airport does its thing across three different terminals, but the master plan includes the idea of combining things into one giant terminal.

There will be fewer gates at the upgraded and improved airport, but they’ll actually be able to handle more passengers than ever before. Airport officials promise the ability to be flexible and adaptable to change, so if growth is more than expected they’ll still be ready for it.

If you’re looking for a sneak preview you might only have to wait until 2019—ha—as that’s when the first half of the new terminal should open up and start doing its thing. We’re still a bit away from speculating on new airport restaurants, lounges, and other amenities; however, 2022 will be here before we know it and we’ll keep an eye out on any and all Sbarro and Starbucks updates.
