Track the German Team's Celebratory Lufthansa Flight Home from Brazil

They may have been handed their medals by Emirates flight attendants yesterday, but today the National German Team (Die deutsche Fußballnationalmannschaft) and FIFA World Cup 2014 champions will enjoy the hospitality of home onboard their Lufthansa flight from Brazil to Germany.

Flight number LH 2014 is typically issued to the Munich-Dusseldorf route on an A320, but today it will be specially relegated to the charter of a Boeing 747-8i (tail number D-ABYI "Potsdam," the 1,500th 747 built) from Rio de Janeiro to Berlin-Tegel, continuing on to Frankfurt.

Rio de Janeiro is on BRT, which is one hour ahead of EST. Thus, to track the flight, tune in to Flightradar24.com for scheduled departure at 4pm BRT/3pm EST. Since this is a charter flight, however, departure could be a little early or a little late, and we think they'll be heading out a little early in order to enjoy their time flying over German territory later on.

Update: 1:50pm EST: Lufthansa's Director of Corporate Communications for the Americas, Nils Haupt, has tweeted a fresh photo of the plane, updated with the last-minute addition of "Siegerflieger" on the side. This term means "The aircraft of the winners," according to Haupt.

Even after the team has landed, passengers on upcoming Lufthansa flights will be able to join in the celebration. Not only has the airline repainted some A321s, A330s, A340s, and brand-new 747-8is as "Fanhansa," but they're serving up soccer-themed goodies onboard for a limited time.

Even Lufthansa's subsidiary Germanwings is celebrating on social media:
