What's that translucent, spaghetti-like thing at the bottom of my glass? That would be the conch's sex pistol, or penis, which is known as an aphrodisiac around these parts. Da Conch Shack makes a special rum shot recipe called a "Conch Knocker" that, when you ask, incorporates a sex pistol. Even if you don't need any more motivation in the bedroom, you'll immediately have a good answer to the infamous travel question, "What's the weirdest thing you've eaten?"
The name of this local rum pays homage to a group of slaves who found a life of freedom at a place they named Bambarra Beach on Middle Caicos in 1841, marking an influx of African culture to an otherwise European settlement. The rum comes in a variety of styles, from breezy coconut to a 15-year limited edition blend. We recommend starting with the 2-year-old Gold and Silver rums. Try them over ice to take in the flavors, then feel free to add them to your favorite Caribbean cocktail.
Turk's Head Beer
Located right there on Provo, Turk's Head Brewery uses desalinated ocean water to make its beer, which comes in two styles, Lager and Amber. We preferred the Lager, as it seems to be the best fit for the climate, but definitely give the Amber a go after the sun goes down.
