Southwest is Celebrating Their 43rd Birthday with What Else But Free Flights

June 18, 2014 at 9:32 AM | by | ()

Today, Southwest Airlines celebrates its 43rd birthday. The airline first launched on June 18th, 1971, with flights from Dallas to Houston and Dallas to San Antonio. It has grown up quite a bit since, spreading all over the US as well as to the Caribbean.

To celebration the occasion, the airline is holding a sweepstakes with two grand prizes, one to Tucson and one to Montego Bay. Entering takes about 30 seconds, and you have until June 30th to register. The winner will be selected via a random drawing on July 1st.

We congratulate Southwest on becoming a major player and an innovator in the domestic market, and in honor of its special day, here's a rundown of some of our favorite aspects of the airline, as well as some recent news clippings:

· You can watch free TV via your own personal device (laptop, iPad) on most Southwest flights.

· Southwest is the only airline to regularly offer drink specials on its flights.

· In our humble opinion, Southwest has the industry's most efficient and logical boarding processes.

· Speaking of that boarding process, a comedian did a very funny bit about it.

· Southwest offers free alcoholic drinks to passengers on certain days of the year, including today! Check out the full list here.

· Better late than never, Southwest recently launched mobile boarding passes.
