Not Too Much Longer Now for AirTran, as Final Flight Date Set

We’re not going to pick on Southwest Airlines and their acquisition of AirTran, but we have to say that this airline merger has taken pretty much forever.

The process finally looks like it's wrapping up, as the combined carrier just announced when AirTran will be disappearing once and for all. Luckily there's still a few more months to slip AirTran safety cards before the brand says sayonara.

As of now, December 28 will be the final flight for AirTran, as after that things will finally be fully integrated with Southwest. The final flight will be AirTran Airways flight number 1, and it fly between Atlanta and Tampa—just like the carrier’s very first flight way back in 1993 during the ValuJet days.

To put this merger in perspective, the carriers started to shack up back in 2011, as that’s when Southwest wrote an oversized check for around $1.4 billion. It’s been a long time coming, and we’re always a little sad to see an airline go to the big hangar into the sky, but we wish the new Southwest all the best.
