Jon Hamm spent much of last spring filming his new movie Million Dollar Arm in India and, during a recent press junket, he shared some advice for first time visitors to the country.

Don't Eat The Fruit Basket...

The Mad Men star has taken every opportunity to warn the public about the ever-present potential for a gastrointestinal upset while traveling through India.

“There are some serious caveats, 'to dos' and 'not to dos,' in India,” Hamm has said. “One is never touch the fruit basket. You never know what you’re going to get there. You never want to get involved with any gastro situation.”

He added a few more details in a later interview and warned would-be tourists of the "brown code."

"There's a whole other culinary situation happening there as well. We had a few guys go down with Code Brown which was not so great. It's a real, it's a real deal over there."

Don't visit In May

According to Jon, May is the hottest month of the whole year in India and is therefore the worst time of year to visit or work there.

"May in India is literally the hottest month. No one shoots outside in May...[the Bollywood productions] were like 'you'll melt, your camera won't work' and it was challenging."

Do Go To The Taj Mahal

It wasn't all bad. Hamm was blown away while filming at the Taj Mahal.

"It's a breathtaking monument, this thing is unbelievable. You can't really understand how big it is unless you see it. It's so beautiful...it's like this insane thing that was created in the middle of India."

Do Visit Elephanta Island

Jon also highly recommends the Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO Heritage Site known for archaeological remains from as early as the 2nd century BC.

"It has these 600-700 year old Hindi statues, and they are carved out of the rock. That doesn't exist in St. Louis."

You can catch Jon, and India, in Million Dollar Arm on the big screen today.
