Why Grace Kelly is Showing Up in Some American Airlines Ads

We’re sure you had your fill of celebrities and famous people with this weekend’s Academy Awards and whatnot, but if you’re looking for more then American Airlines has you covered. The carrier just launched their latest advertising campaign, and they’re playing up the good ol’ days.

Selling the idea that “the legend is back,” American Airlines is offering up the memory of yesteryear. They’re showing off what a transcontinental flight used to be, but at the same time giving a glimpse into what it’s like right now. Famous faces from the big screen, like Grace Kelly and Gregory Peck, are paired up with modern celeb flyers, like Julianna Margulies and Neil Patrick Harris.

The airline pats itself on the back regarding their invention—their words not ours—of cross-country flights.

We really can’t argue that they’re in the lead when it comes to flying between spots like New York and Los Angeles, as their true three-cabin capabilities on their new Airbus A321Ts are pretty much second to none. Flying isn’t as glamorous as it used to be—and probably won’t be ever again—but a lie-flat seat on the journey between the two coasts is something Grace Kelly never had.
