Hear the Sounds of a Destination Before Seeing the Sights, Thanks to Spotify and British Airways

Last month, we opened up our own iTunes playlists to share favorite travel songs we listen to when on the road. Now, British Airways and Spotify have followed suit to deliver songs that make you dream of different destinations.

Creating the ultimate soundtrack for travel to a range of BA cities is now a snap for UK-based customers of the music streaming service, Spotify. For starters, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Naples, Edinburgh and Valletta, Malta now feature their own British Airways-curated playlists. Traditional and local tunes are served up directly to your device to jam along to on your journey.

Spotify will recommend music, bands, artists and trending music from the selected destination, allowing users to be on the cusp of popular culture in the city before they even get their passport stamped. Music lovers will also have the opportunity to research special events in the destination city and even book event tickets to concerts directly from the app.

British Airways is the first to work with the music service, so we can only hope it's a huge success and not only expands to more cities, but to more airlines. Hint, hint: come to the U.S.A!

Playlists for places

It will be interesting to see if this will finally be the killer app for location-based music. I love the idea of enriching a travel experience through music. Pin Jockey (http://pinjockey.com) is my personal foray into playlists for places.
