In the Spirit of SXSW, Austin's Airport Will Keep the Live Music Coming

We’re right in the middle of SXSW, and if you’re lucky enough to be in attendance this year chances are that AUS will be in your plans. We discussed some of our favorite airport eats last year, and the same holds true in 2014—get some ice cream and barbeque before departing town. This year Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is rolling out the welcome mat for visitors yet again, as they’re bringing plenty of live music and other entertainment right into the terminal.

The airport’s 15th Annual SXSW Airport Showcase kicks off today with Wendy Colonna taking the stage between 1pm and 3pm, and after that it will the blues and soul sounds from Nakia a little later in the afternoon. Let’s just say that if you’re heading into town today that you’ll be treated to a little bit more than the usual airport welcome.

The fun continues tomorrow around the same time with different sets taking place between 1pm and 3pm, and then again between 3:30 and 5:30pm. It’ll be the Warrne Hood Band and the Lost & Nameless Orchestra doing their thing, respectively.

Things settle down during the week, as airport officials figure you’ll be in and around town enjoying all that SXSW has to offer. The live music starts up again towards the end of the week, as they do their best to wish everyone a fond farewell. Musicians hit the stage again on Monday, March 17, but just remember that this is all above and beyond the usual entertainment offered up at the airport.

So even if you’re not visiting for SXSW there’s always plenty of music to be had if you’re heading in or out of town for another reason—like to catch a ride aboard a Boeing 787.
