Social media is one of the best ways for travelers both real and "armchair" to have a window into new destinations and inspiration for yet more travel. When it comes to Instagram, there's no other account that gets as many likes as the folks behind the Tourism Australia profile. These are the same people who posted the full-frontal pic of a kangaroo? Yeah, same guys.

The @Australia account belongs to the tourism board and uses photos snapped by locals and visitors, then uploaded and tagged with #seeaustralia. On average, each Aussie post receives around 8,200 likes, which is in stark contrast to an average 360 likes for photos on other tourism board accounts.

Over at Skift, they're keeping an eye on some of the more popular tourism accounts and, based on their findings, of the top 200 most liked posts, @Australia has 197 of the most-liked photos.

While much of this success seems coincidental, the team at Tourism Australia are very serious about social media, so serious they hired a "High Flyer" to help with all of this Instagramming; Cameron Ernst is the a winner of the "Best Job in the World" competition.

Before you go thinking that a color-enhancing filter is all the magic required, think again; 96.9% of @Australia's photos on the account are filter-less. We guess Australia lucked out that its natural beauty shows up so well in tiny, square-format images.
