American Airlines Flight Diverted for the Creepiest Reason

Quick. What's worse than a creep who tapes a tiny camera in a bathroom and spies on people while they're doing their business? Think about it for a second, because that's not a rhetorical question. It turns out there's a very precise answer.

Give up? It's a creep who tapes a tiny camera in a bathroom and spies on people while they're doing their business, and - because of said creep's mind-blowing creepiness - forces a transcontinental flight to make an emergency landing, thereby stranding over 200 people in of all places Kansas City. It boggles the imagination, doesn't it, how much you would have hated that person if you were on the flight.

American Airlines Flight 24 was gliding from San Francisco International to JFK last Sunday. At some point during the flight, someone discovered what looked like a USB flash drive taped to the inside of a bathroom wall. For reasons that we still can't quite understand, the flight crew decided that the drive was potentially a bomb and diverted the jet to Kansas City. Everyone had to leave the plane while it was searched.

If the story ended here, it would be merely stupid. It's 2014 - seriously, we checked and blogged about it and everything - and most people now recognize USB drives as things that record data, versus bombs which are things that go boom.

But of course that's not where the story ended. Subsequent investigation showed that the drive actually had a tiny built-in camera. So-called "spy cameras" retail for less than $6, and this one was positioned to film exactly how you think it was positioned to film.

This story really does have everything, doesn't it?
