Video Interlude: An Education in Being a Tourist to New York City

Uploaded back in September, with ample time to tutor tourists arriving to New York City for the holidays, the 4-minute video is an instructional film for non-New Yorkers looking to enjoy a visit to the Big Apple. We only picked up on it this week after our buddy, Seth Miller aka Wandering Aramean, posted it and added his two cents as a native New Yorker: "We’re not rude and Times Square isn’t a great place to visit. There’s reasons for that and you should understand them, not just assume we’re all assholes."

Wise words.

While the video is meant to entertain, it's also completely serious on a "listen up" level. For real, stopping on the sidewalk to take a picture can result in worse than holding up those behind you for an extra second; sidewalk collisions do happen! While telling the story of how you broke your wrist outside Grand Central Terminal will likely be fun in the far, far future, the fact that it's your fault (and you may hurt others) isn't so great.

Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and even New Years may be over and, thus, the highest tourist holidays behind us, at least there's spring to look forward to. Watch this before hopping that plane to head to NYC for Central Park jogging and Fifth Avenue shopping.
