Dapper Day at Disney: February 22-23 at Disneyland, March 9 at Disney World
For the fourth year in a row, Disneyland and Walt Disney World will welcome hoards of visitors wearing their Sunday best...assuming we're talking about a Sunday in the 1960s. Dapper Day "celebrates the tradition of stepping out in style," and people of all ages show up to ride the Teacups in vintage attire. The event even offers a styling suite, in case you can't get that beehive hairdo just right. Visit the website.
Jazz Age Lawn Party: June 14 & 15, August 16 & 17
If you can only go to one event in NYC all year, let it be this. The Jazz Age Lawn Party is two weekends of complete dedication to the frivolity of the 1920s. Governor's Island, in the middle of NY harbor, hosts a picnic of hundreds dressed in vintage attire, downing cocktails mixed from vintage recipes, and all the while doing the Charleston on a wood dance floor to a live orchestra. Tickets ($30) for the first weekend are on sale now; visit the website for more info.
Black Tie Beach: Last week of August (join mailing list for date announcement)
Another Improv Everywhere production, Black Tie Beach happens in several cities around the world, but most prominently NYC. The waters of Coney Island and Brighton Beach are filled not with swimmers in bikinis and banana hammocks, but with revelers decked out in their finest attire. Tuxedos, ball gowns, top hats and tiaras all frolick in the waves. Check out the video from the 2013 event below:
International Talk Like a Pirate Day: Friday, September 19
This is especially great because it takes place at the end of a workweek, so slipping some pirate lexicon into your office environment won't be as annoying as if it were, say, morning on a Monday. Check out the how to guide.
