Oklahoma State Fair
This year’s fair does its September 12-22 in Oklahoma City, and getting in will set you back $9 per adult—but only $7 if you order in advance before the fair begins. For the big kids they’ve got a wine and beer garden where you can pass the time, and for the little kids the barnyard birthing center provides a look at the cute and cuddly baby animals. Just be sure to visit the fair’s website before visiting, as their food finder will help you find and locate everything from things like the bacon blood mary to chocolate dipped jalapenos.
Washington State Fair
Head to Puyallup—less than an hour south of Seattle—and you’ll find the Washington State Fair celebrating the summer September 6-22. Getting in will set you back $10 for now, but once the fair starts running the rides and frying the foods the admission jumps to $12.50. It’ll be extra if you’re planning to attend one of the concerts, as Carrie Underwood visits on September 13 and Kid Rock does the fair thing on September 22—tickets for these start at like $45. Rides, attractions, and the usual offerings are obviously available, but the SillyVille Soda Shoppe—for the kids—and the Bavarian Beer Garden—for the big kids—seem like two solid picks that set this fair apart from the competition.
