The details are extensive and gruesome. Roughly half of the problems34,000 of themwere described as "relevant" to the question of whether the airport could open. 5,845 problems were categorized as "critical," according to The Local.
A June debut had been called off because of a faulty fire alarm system. As of the newest report, the fire system still has problems. In the north pier there are 462 walls with incorrect fire ratings, which is just the tip of the 10,400 problems in that section. In the main south pier, software glitches effect the fire emergency lifts, some of the 13,700 problems in that section. And, in the south pier, you'll find smoke detectors that won't shut up because they're built next to ventilation shafts, that's some of the 9,000 problems in that section.
The verdict? BER isn't opening any time soon, despite recent hope that perhaps they'd be able to limp by with a few gates in spring 2014.
