British Airways A380 London/Los Angeles First Class Tasting Menu by The Langham, London
London - Los Angeles
Poached lobster with Charentais melon, mango and shiso salad
Chicken tea with goji berries
Braised pork belly and cheek with heritage carrots, peaches, pak choi and lemongrass and lime sauce
Seared scallops with pea puree, asparagus and truffle sauce
Praline profiteroles with quince
Los Angeles - London
Chicken and morel galantine with spiced tomato chutney
Tomato tea with basil
Braised veal cheek
Native lobster ravioli with grilled baby gem and japonaise dressing
Cheesecake, shortbread, fruit compote
The aim of this bespoke menu is to "bring the onboard dining experience closer to that of a gastronomicon," says Chef Gwendal Hamon, Manager of Food and Beverage Design for BA. Of course "so long as it's on the aircraft," a passenger in First may order whatever, whenever they want, but this tasting is the real highlight.
Afternoon Tea (London - Los Angeles only)
Egg and mustard cress mayonnaise in a bridge roll
Langham hibiscus and blackcurrant jelly
Lemon drizzle cake with lime foam
Mango and passionfruit dome with almond sponge cake
English rose macaron with raspberry and lime jelly
Valrhona chocolate brownie
Raisin and orange scone with clotted cream and organic strawberry preserve
As for afternoon tea, only offered in First on the London to Los Angeles route, it features sandwiches, scones and sweet bites "inspired by the range of indulgent treats offered at The Palm Court at The Langham, famed as the birthplace of afternoon tea over 140 years ago." In our opinion, it's the Union Jack-topped English rose macaron that brings the "wow" factor.
Thirsty for something more? There was once a time when British Airways ranked as one of the largest buyers of champagne in the entire world. Perhaps they're attempting to regain that title, as the new A380 First service includes not one, not two, but three champagne choices, one of which is an English sparkling wine.

We've actually tasted all of this ourselves, and our highest, do-not-miss recommendations are the braised pork belly with lemongrass and lime sauce in the tasting menu, and the mango and passionfruit dome cake in the afternoon tea set. The flavors work with the changes of your taste buds at altitude, rather than against them.
Just when you thought you couldn't possibly eat or drink any more, one final recommendation comes from the British Airways crew themselves: a Canadian ice wine that occasionally appears in the list of dessert wines.
To experience this First Class tasting menu and more, book a seat or upgrade to First Class on the British Airways A380 between London and Los Angeles, beginning today, September 24, and don't forget to check out our exclusive tour of the aircraft itself.
