Much to the excitement of hunters in and around the area, the Allegheny County Airport Authority gave the go ahead for limited hunting on well over 2,000 acres of county land that’s leased by the airport. It’s going to be archery only, so no fear of a stray bullet getting lodged into the side of your checked baggage. Things will be somewhat limited, as there will be a lottery system in which like 157 hunters will score a special permit to do their thing between October 5 and January 11—all on airport property.
The controlled hunting and access is all part of the routine airport wildlife control, as it sounds like there’s more than enough deer doing their thing in and around the airport. We’re certainly not here to argue the benefits or lack thereof when it comes to hunting, but we fully support doing stuff at the airport that’s a little out of the ordinary. If you’re interested in doing the deer thing at the airport just head right over here for the full scoop, and you can submit your application.
