· Second flight: Delta from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles
We were already passed security from our origin in Cody, so we didn't have to clear again at SLC and, from the looks of the amount of people pouring from the checkpoints, lines may have stretched long. Regardless, we found SLC airport teeming with people, so the anniversary surely didn't deter flyers at this western hub.
· Final flight: Air New Zealand from Los Angeles to Auckland
As expected, a larger international airport meant a greater police presence roaming both the terminal halls and walking up and down the curbside drop-off areas. While enjoying our extra-long layover with the Encounter building, we watched a small convoy of police cars monitor the curbside for almost our entire meal.
On the whole, we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary while flying on the anniversary versus any other day. Apart from some extra security and more "boots on the ground," we wouldn't have even thought we were flying on a significant date. Still, when we arrived at our destination and opened our luggage, there was the TSA's little Notice of Baggage Inspection slip, reminding us that our observations barely scratch the surface of what goes on in airport operations.
