OLYMPIC PROVISIONS SALAMI BOUQUETS
Some people say it with flowers. Portlanders say it with meat. Beloved hometown salumeria Olympic Provisions makes all kinds of snacks, from chorizo to chocolate sausage. (No, seriously.) But it's hard to go wrong with these beautifully wrapped salami bouquets. If for some reason you don't want your luggage smelling like pork products, they also ship.
UNREPENTANT ROSE SOAP
You shouldn't be allowed to visit Portland (it is the City of Roses, after all) without stopping in at the International Rose Test Garden, where award-winning roses from around the world grow with a beautiful view of Mt. Hood. The garden store is, unsurprisingly, full of rose-scented swag, but you can't go wrong with this gentle soap made with pure rose petals.
POWELL'S BOOKS AND TEES
"Powell’s City of Books is the largest independent bookstore in the US," explains Conan O'Brien, "Actually, it's not so impressive when you realize there are only 4 bookstores left in the US." Keep indie bookstores alive by supporting Powell's. Whether you're in the market for an Oregon tee or a rare volume of 18th century Serbian love poetry, this place has it.
SMITH TEA VARIETY PACK
Steven Smith takes his tea as seriously as any Parisian sommelier takes his wine. After he founded and eventually sold super-successful tea brand Tazo, Smith just couldn't stay out of the business and opened his own place in Portland in a former blacksmith's shop. The store has a wide range of black, green, white, and oolong teas, but if you're overwhelmed or can't decide grab a variety pack and try them all.
