Visit the Smallville Set for 'Man of Steel,' AKA Plano, Illinois

June 14, 2013 at 2:34 PM | by | ()

Superman flies into theaters again this weekend in Man of Steel and the small town where it was filmed is taking full advantage of the publicity.

In the summer of 2011 Plano, IL was transformed into Smallville. Crews turned empty storefronts into Smallville bars, post offices, real estate agencies and pizzerias.

In honor of its star turn, Plano will host the Smallville Super Fest on August 16- 18, 2013. The festival will include a parade, giveaways, and vendors, all celebrating all things Superman.

Looking for more Superman-themed things to do? Metropolis, IL recently hosted their own annual Superman Celebration but even if you missed it you can still strike a pose in front of the city's famous Superman Statue (across the street from the Super Museum), just like President Obama.

Or, you can make a stop in Naperville, IL for some ice cream. Naperville was another one of Man of Steel's filming locations and the town where Russell Crowe lived during the shoot. Crowe recently told reporters, Naperville has "more ice cream stores per square mile than I think any other place I've ever experienced. It's pretty ridiculous." According to locals, IKiwi (which is actually frozen yogurt) is the best in town.
