It's Now Possible to Send That Hottie in Another Row a Drink on Virgin America

Yesterday, Virgin America not only launched its new three-times daily flight service from Los Angeles to Las Vegas but it also unveiled its new seat-to-seat ordering service on the Red in-flight entertainment system. Yes, it means what you think it means--you can buy drinks and snacks for your friends, your colleagues or perhaps your new crush and have the goodies sent right to their seat.*

David Cush, CEO of Virgin America, told us that the new service evolved from the seat-to-seat chat platform on Red but the real inspiration was that "people were doing it anyways." So now instead of flagging the flight attendants down, passengers can just take the onboard happy hour into their own hands.**

Here's how it works:

Pull up the EAT menu from your seatback TV. Then select DRINKS. We picked the English Bloody Mary.

Next, hit the Send to Another Seat Option. A seat map will pull up.

Select the seat

Voila. You will be sending a drink to the seat you selected. Hit Cart to check out and pay like usual.

*The seat-to-seat delivery is only available for people in the main cabin seats, not first class or main cabin select. If you're in the main cabin you can send drinks to those seats but they can't send you ones. Hopefully, Virgin America will fix that ASAP.

**Even though there aren't any restrictions on how many drinks you can order, the flight attendants will be monitoring your intake and your resulting behavior. So, you know, don't be a party foul.

First Class/MCS

I wonder if people in First Class/MCS can send drinks for free since they don't have to pay for theirs???

That's a good question

I know I was able to send a drink to someone in first class so there wasn't a class restriction. But I will find out if MCS or First Class need to pay extra. I doubt it but will let you know ASAP.

Not available for first class or MCS

Virgin America's PR reps just told me "at this time, the seat-to-seat delivery function does not come up as an option in First class or main cabin select." Interesting. Hopefully, they unveil it soon.
