New Routes on the Docket from Hawaiian, American and Delta

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· American Airlines:
They are still waiting on the necessary approvals and paperwork from various government agencies, but when the stamps and seals come through it’ll be good news for American Airlines. They’re thinking about heading down to Brazil, as they look to connect both Los Angeles and Chicago with São Paulo.

If all goes according to plan it’ll be LAX scoring the flights first, as it sounds like they want to get those up and running by the end of this year; however, for fans of Chicago-O’Hare you’ll just have to be patient. Those flights probably won’t hit the skies until later in 2014. At least at that point you’ll probably have the snazzy new livery and logo all over the outside of the plane.

· JetBlue:
For those snowed in over in the Windy City this week it’s probably a good time to start dreaming—or acting upon—a warm weather escape. JetBlue feels your pain, and they’re getting ready to do something about it. Unfortunately the sun and the sand aren’t arriving immediately, but they are working on getting it to you a little later this year.

The plan is for JetBlue to start nonstop flights between Chicago-O’Hare and San Juan beginning on November 20. The flights will head back and forth each and every day of the week, and if Puerto Rico isn’t your final destination that’s not a problem. JetBlue has plenty of connections to other Caribbean spots right out of San Juan—start stocking up on the sunscreen now.

· Hawaiian Airlines:
They’re not just about the islands anymore, as Hawaiian Airlines has really focused on expanding their reach outside of the country’s 50th state. Next week they add yet another international destination, as they look to link Auckland—that’s in New Zealand—with Honolulu.

The flights are scheduled to start doing their thing on March 13, and we’re pretty sure that they’ll be the only carrier from the nifty fifty to be flying all the way over to New Zealand. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are the usual scheduled options from Auckland to Hawaii, and it’s Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays back down to New Zealand.

· Spirit:
Despite their reputation as a charge for anything and everything low cost carrier, the planes and people over at Spirit Airlines are on the move once again—they must be doing something right. This week they’re planning on where to send some jets beginning in June, as it sounds like they’re looking to start nonstop flights between Houston and Denver beginning on June 13.

That’s not the only option out of Houston, as Bush Intercontinental Airport will also be getting nonstop service to Detroit. Just like all their other flights it’ll be Airbus A320s doing the flying between the different cities and states. Just remember to book what you need beforehand like checked baggage and what not; otherwise, it’ll cost you a lot more when you go to do at the airport.

· Delta:
The WiFi enabled planes are on the move once again, as Delta is looking to expand their reach around the United States. The news this week is primarily focused on Los Angeles, as the carrier is thinking about starting up all kinds of new service in and out of LAX. Beginning on April 8 there will be new daily nonstop service over to Nashville, and they’ll also start service up to Seattle three times per week right around the same time.

Other spots include San Jose—frequent daily service begins in July—as well as Spokane, Washington which will receive daily service as soon as June. Seasonal service will begin all the way over to Boston, and the warmer weather will bring nonstop service between LAX and spots like Bozeman and Anchorage. Those Delta SkyMiles seem to be getting harder and harder to redeem, but with these new options we’ll have to try our best to cash 'em in.
