The Little Things: Celebrating a Birthday on Qantas

In the midst of the bustle of travel, it's all too easy to overlook the details. We're talking about special touches others have stressed over just so you can enjoy a unique experience, whether you know it or not. Every so often we'll highlight The Little Things like this, so now you will know.

These little touches are usually static details that are available to everyone, but this time it was the airline crew who went above and beyond to make us feel special when we flew on the birthday of our travel companion. The crew of this recent flight on Qantas took time out of their busy work duties to wish him a very happy day.

During meal service, Nicki, our customer service manager, leaned over and (without prompting) asked if we wanted to celebrate the birthday with some sparkling wine. After recovering from the shock that she knew, we smiled and agreed to a little glass of bubbles. She returned and presented the little bottles with carefully folded napkins to act as drip guards, which also happened to perfectly showcase the 'Qantas' branding.

As if this wasn't enough, right after we started our initial decent, Nicki came back to our seat to present a bottle of wine as a gift and a handwritten card on Qantas stationary from the crew of the flight. Naturally, this special service made us feel quite appreciated and put a giant smile on our face.

The fun didn't stop there. Upon landing, Nicki welcomed all passengers to the airport on the PA system and, again, sent out her best birthday wishes for the "passenger in seat 2A" (we're Qantas frequent flyers traveling on our own in Business). After a few seconds of blushing we knew this birthday would be one of the most memorable.
