Infographic Alert: How We Waste Time on In-Flight WiFi

So, you've got a solid four hours in the air and your airplane is all hooked up with In-flight WiFi. What are you going to do? Survey says: aimlessly surf the web!

Time spent flying is usually considered wasted—hours spent staring out the window, hours spent filling in the crossword puzzle in the back of the airline magazine, hours spent bitterly watching some movie you never wanted to see anyhow...but WiFi was supposed to change all that! Finally, with WiFi access in the sky, travelers could keep up with work, catch up on the news or handle internet errands.

Guess what? According to the latest infographic on in-flight web use from Gogo, the #1 activity for in-flight WiFi users is still surfing the web wasting time! Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Frankly we're surprised "social networking" ranks fourth, since the first order of business for us (after logging into WiFi), is to brag on Facebook & Twitter about how we're on in-flight WiFi, usually followed by an Instagram of the Earth below.

Even more shocking is #9, shopping, considering that's the prime focus for in-flight internet portals. Even before you login to Gogo, there's a variety of options for free web browsing, including access to shopping sites like Gilt and eBay.

Now, note that a #10 is missing. For this spot we'd nominate "planning and purchasing future travel," since airline websites are free to browse over WiFi and what gets you more in the mood to travel than actually traveling and having some peaceful time to ponder?
