The Central Perk of 'Friends' Finds a Home in Beijing

Where: Beijing, China

A real life Central Perk, the cafe where Rachel, Ross, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, and Chandler hung out on Friends, has finally opened—but not where you'd expect.

A replica of the famous '90s coffee shop has been constructed in a Beijing apartment complex by Friends super-fan Du Xin (aka "Gunther" to his friends) who says, “for me, it’s like a religion. It’s my life.”

The Beijing Central Perk is identical to the one on the show, right down to the window, doorway, and couch. Even the menu only features snacks mentioned on the show. And, as if that wasn't enough, Du has constructed a replica of Joey and Chandler’s apartment next door, including a foosball table, Baywatch videos, and Joey's giant TV cabinet.

You can get a taste of Central Perk here in the US, too. The original set is now part of the Television Out of the Box exhibit at the Paley Center in Los Angeles. Buy tickets, which cost $10 for adults, at paleycenter.org.
