JetBlue has always been an inclusive airline, keeping to the all-economy model and even introducing the first airline customer Bill of Rights. This new lounge continues in the same vein, as entry is open to any passenger, for a fee. This fee hasn't been released quite yet, but the first Airspace lounge at BWI only charges $17.50 per person. Now compare that to the $23 we recently spent on a sushi bowl and tea at Terminal 5 and you'll see how this is potentially a killer deal.
Believe it or not, this will be the first lounge in Terminal 5. The building, designed by Gensler Architects, is packed with award-winning dining venues (mmm, Deep Blue sushi) and already boasts free WiFi, but just never did the lounge thing. Having flown through it plenty of times, including Red Eyes in from the west coast, we've always thought a lounge of any sort would be welcome so long as it offered showers. Looks like we're getting that wish!
The breakdown on what Airspace at T5 offers:
· Opening hours that stretch from before the day's first flight to boarding of the last flight at night
· Complimentary food and beverages (hot breakfast sandwiches, "hearty" other sandwiches, "thoughtfully crafted" cheese plates, snacks, coffee, tea, soft drinks, one free alcoholic beverage)
· A full bar
· Free WiFi (already offered in the terminal, but still neat-o)
· Power outlets "at every seat"
· Free use of Macbooks and PCs in a dedicated work area
· Comfortable seating
· Separate restrooms with shower facilities
The only thing the Airspace lounge is potentially missing? A kids play area, seeing as how some JetBlue destinations and travel seasons are particularly popular with families. Also, it looks like there are no windows, so plane watching is ruled out.
It's not just JetBlue flyers who'll benefit from the space, either; Terminal 5 also hosts Hawaiian Airlines' nonstop to Honolulu and, come April, the Aer Lingus nonstop to Dublin.
Bonus tidbit: This will be the third Airspace lounge, after the one at BWI (opened in 2012) and one yet to open at Cleveland-Hopkins, coming in March 2013.
